I agree that bookmarks are the more economical choice. Paige is right on the mark with her comment, though--the url alone isn't enough.

Don't forget places like Associated Content and Helium that will actually pay you for articles, although it's best to post to Associated Content first under non-exclusive, get paid, then post to other article sights like those you've listed (otherwise AC just pays for page views, but if you have a large article archive, go ahead and share!)

Lots of great info in the article and the comments. I think there's room for both virtual and real meet and greets, it's just up to the author to determine what will have the biggest return on investment--flying out of state for a signing at a borders may not be a good idea, but spending a couple of hours giving a talk or hosting a meet and greet locally may be much better for word of mouth.

I agree, it all comes down to "try before you buy". One issue I've come across is since I write children's picture books, excerpts are sometimes a little tricky to post. In some cases I'll just post the first couple of spreads, but getting a picture to show enough quality online to do the illustrations justice has been my biggest hassle. If anyone has any suggestions, please pass along!
