Those are the exact reasons why we need Same-Sex Marriage. The fight for marriage equality is not one against religious marriage. They are two separate things and if we can treat them that way then there would be less opposition.

Marriage Equality = Basic Rights & Benefits from Government
Religious Marriage = Ceremony within your chosen religious institute

Just for the record. California no longer has gay marriage, so that make Iowa the 3rd state to offer legal same-sex marriages. And they can't vote on it untill 20012 at the earliest. It may even be longer, so GO IOWA!!!

It was built on the separation of Church and State. Not all religions follow the bible, so why are we letting one religion that does determine our laws?? Your religion may not believe in gay marriage but there are over 100 different religions that do. We can't deem one right over another so they should all be left out.

With all of the open and affirming churches around, I don't think it would be hard for couples to find a church to hold your ceremony. But if a church chooses not to allow such ceremonies thats fine, there are plenty more out there.

NO! If we actually can separate church and state, then having a marriage license through the state would be completely separate from the union you have in what ever religion you choose. I don't think we should force religions to change. If your church doesn't wanna perform my ceremony, thats fine with me. I want to go somewhere that wants to perform my marriage.

As for marriage being a religious term. If you read the bible start to finish the word "marriage" is never used. They do talk about a man taking a wife. Which in those days it was fathers selling off the bride. Passing of the woman from one man to another. Thank goodness we have come past being property, but the word "marriage" is never seen in the bible and I wish people read it enough to see that.

If you do find it, please let me know. I would love to see it!!! I don't want something that hints to it or not. It has to say "marriage."

Thank you all for the best wishes!! I agree we need more states with gay marriage. Being from NC, it was quit a drive. The good news is I am working on it.

I work for Rainbow Wedding Network and Same Love, Same Rights.com and we work 60hrs a weeks trying to achieve marriage equality and helping all couples find gay friendly businesses in every state.

As long as the girl is above the age of 18 which is legal consent then yes they could.

As for our "same rights" they are not the same....Wouldn't you hate it if the government said the only way for you to have these rights is to marry another man?? I bet you would have a problem with it then, wouldn't you??

Starting today!! Oct.28th they will be issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Yep, we are really proud of CT. We will be in CT producing our GLBTQ Wedding & Family Expo this Fall. The date isn't set yet, but we are looking at Dec. 7th. So very soon. I hope everyone will come out!!

We did a big fundraiser this past April to help fund the NO on 2. We raised close to $2000 to help keep that from passing. I hope everyone will realize that will affect everyone in the state, not just the GLBTQ community. We are with you though!!

I do understand that. Some times Pride festivals hurt more than help any more these days, but I'm talking small stuff. Do you participate in rallies, fundraisers? Do you talk to your friends and family about why we need marriage equality? Do you keep up with all the political stuff going on in your area? Are there any new court cases or laws being passed that need more people involved? The minute a law is presented that is for marriage equality the conservative groups have already gathered hundreds of people to oppose it. Most of our community isn't even aware that it was going on. Why are we not up to date on everything thing going on in our communities?
