Well put Glen. I've been thinking about it a lot and I think part of the so called 'slap' might actually be a result of the good things Squidoo has done. By implementing the WIP (work-in-progress) feature, they have weeded out a lot of poorer quality lenses. However, as a result, the total number of links in the squidoo site has decreased simply because of sheer volume of 'de-linked' pages. If you compare current traffic to the traffic when squidoo had 50,000-60,000 lenses (the number of active lenses by my estimation), it's actually much better.

I'm actually starting to see the first trickles of traffic from yahoo and MSN as well, and those engines are based more on content quality, meaning they are viewing the quality of the site as much higher.

Joe is a Lensmaster as well. One of his pet projects is a budding lens marketplace. You can usually find him prowling the forums of Squidoo as well under the name Loyalis.

They put it into a contract that you sign... so yes, unfortunately. Penalties for breaking contracts are very common. If you don't pay for your car or house, you get repo'd. Same idea, just taken to the extreme!

Very well written!

The one burning issue I have is that I have yet to see a proven causal relationship between global warming and CO2. All the data I have seen shows that when the earth heats up, CO2 increases. None of it has shown that CO2 is causing the earth to heat up... it's like saying because there are blue cars then all things that are blue must be cars....

Just my thoughts on it.. thanks for the article!

Excellent points in the article and by the responses before me. I am young, morally liberal (reasonably), and fiscally conservative. If that doesn't leave me as a Libertarian, where does it leave me?.....

I agree! I also believe, however, that regardless of what the employer implements, having this information at your fingertips makes all the difference in the world in walking in to talk about a raise and Knowing what your worth instead of Guessing. I figure if I try to teach people from the ground up, the bosses will eventually get it :)

part of the fire sale was probably due to the end of homebuilder's fiscal years. If you book a house in march, you can record the revenue on that year, while the sales would show up 30 days later, in April.
