The State Department, via a speech by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, did indeed issue a statement deploring homophobia and homophobic legislation but did not say anything about Uganda or its proposed legislation; the statement was one made in general and not pointed toward any specific nation or any specific law. :(

Vickey, I'm the author of this article and I didn't call anyone a crazy Christian. As the author of this article, I am asking you to contact our government and demand that they speak out against this horrific piece of legislation that has been proposed by the Ugandan government.

Beth, glad that you were able to find the add-on that was causing the problem. You'd be surprised how often add-ons are the culprit. I should have told you to disable all add-ons then re-enabled them one by one instead of uninstalling & reinstalling them but I always forget that you can just simply disable them in Firefox -- silly moi!

Anyway, can you let us know which add-on was the culprit? Maybe there's another one that works/behaves better I can recommend for you. :)

Also, I've found that AVG has interfered with way too many programs for my liking so I"ve stopped using it for both myself and my clients. Now, I use Avast's free antivirus program and I've found that it does a better job at detecting malware, in addition to not interfering with other programs. You may wish to give that a shot, too.

Glad you've got your Firefox working again!

BTW, if running in safe mode fixes the problem, then the issue is with one of the add-ons that you're using. I'd suggest uninstalling all of your add-ons, then reinstall them one-by-one. Restart Firefox then log into Gather and see if it crashes. If it doesn't, reinstall the next add-on, etc.

Beth, are you still having problems? If so, please provide the version of Firefox you're using, as well as the operating system & version (including any installed service packs) that you're using. Also, if you could provide the error message, that would be helpful as well.

Finally, if you can provide a list of all of the Firefox add-ons that you're using, that would help. Is it only with Gather that this is happening on or is it all sites?

If you need to start Firefox in safe mode (which basically just disables all of your add-ons) and you're using MS-Windows, go into Programs --> Mozilla --> Firefox --> and you should see an icon for "Firefox (safe mode)." If you're using another operating system, then start Firefox with the "-safe-mode" switch.

I'm guessing that your family is much bigger than mine is now. I've got a sister still in RB, Mom + younger bro are in Hartford, older bro's in CA, and Dad's currently in GA. Oh, and a cousin in MA and another cousin somewhere in northern Westchester...

It's funny but I'm more connected w/ family I don't see that often via Facebook/online social networks than I have ever been in real life ...

Funny how you find folk on the Internet that you never knew in real life but very well could have, isn't it?

BTW when I was in HS/college I hung out with some Greenwich kids ... they were uber-rich. I remember this one kid complaining that his mum withdrew $200k from his trust fund to purchase some kind of wall-hanging art thingy that he totally didn't like and it only left him with $20.2m in his trust. And he was a senior in HS... Ah, to have such troubles ..... =b (I met these Greenwich folk from BBSing back in the late 80s/early 90s)

1. Don't ever give up on your loved ones who are battling Depression
2. Remind them -- constantly -- that you love them and are there for them.
3. Let them reach out to you but every once in a while give them a little prod.
4. Check in with them regularly.
5. Educate yourself about their illness in all facets & aspects thereof.
6. Lather, Rinse & Repeat. =b

Thanks for the comment. I also have chronic major depressive disorder, on top of dysthymia (double depression is sooooooo fun -- NOT!), along with the usual anxiety crap that goes along with Depression. Fun stuff, isn't it?

Marilyn, I receive SSD, not SSI. My SSD income is too great for me to receive SSI (I consider that a good thing), although not great enough to live where I really want to stay, in Westchester County. Hartford is only an option b/c mom & my younger brother are up there. I'm much prefer to stay down here in Westchester, though... thanks for responding to my post!
