Congrats on a great survey. Moms are truly absorbing a tremendous amount of "recession stress" which wreaks havoc on their bodies and minds. Hoping your survey creates awareness so that many moms will find healthier solutions to get them through these times.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for stopping by. I never recommend anything quick, or diet for that matter because quick means temporary at best. Dieting is actually the best way to GAIN weight because you trick your metabolism into believing you can live on less. When you go back to what you've originally done, it's more than what your body now requires and you immediately gian it back

Hi Ann, good for you! Since my first was born, I had my husband take the kids out on Saturday mornings-to give me a break and to get a dose of what I do! The problem was, when he came home after taking all 4 out to breakfast he was so proud of himself he wanted to be "off duty" for the rest of the day! To make matters worse, the wait staff was so impressed with the "thoughtful dad who left his wife home to rest" that they bought him breakfast! The most I'd get was a "hey lady, you got your hands full", he got breakfast and was treated like a king!

Hi Candy, sounds like it's a difficult time for your family. The only thing that matters are the basics. The love you have for each other, everything else is "fluff". Do the best you can to love and support each other during these times. It's what the best relationships are made of!

Hi Jane, that's a huge accomplishment that your daughter quit smoking! It's also a really common time to put on weight-one oral fixation and self soothing technique is replaced with another. Can she work out during her lunch break at work? Get up a little earlier and put in some time then? Fit it in before she comes home? Find a bunch of co workers to walk with at some point during the day? She's got to figure out what will work, even if it means getting up a little earlier-killer at first but she'll eventually look forward to her personal time!

Hi J Frugal Mom-I tell my husband sometimes that when he calls, imagine I'm in the middle of a tornado-not a good time! Sometimes it get's crazy so if you do the best you can, that's what counts.

Hi Nancy, I've heard anything from a few days to a few weeks and beyond. As long as there's constant repetition, it will happen. Think of how you put your shoes on each morning. If you were to change, let's say left shoe first instead of right, it would feel strange at first. After you reminded yourself for a few days, kept at it, it would become familiar. However long it takes as long as you make the changes you want to make you stronger, better and wiser!

Hi J Frugal Mom-I don't write down my resolutions but for years I was writing my workouts in my date book like any other appointment! I figured if I respected my other appointments enough to write down I should write that down too! It felt great to cross it off when I did it too

Nancy-you just nailed the nail on the head. The more we like ourselves, the better we treat ourselves, the more we feel we deserve. There are so many things involved but so much of it has to do with our own harsh self judgment. That's our biggest problem

Hi Candy, Can you delegate something or take something off your list? It's no fun to merely "get through the day" and without the rewards, you'll probably begin to feel worse and worse. To start, how about at least a nice bath, journaling, listening to a CD, lighting a nice smelling candle or something? Anything to get the ball rolling showing yourself some much needed self care

Hi Ann, of course I do! I just do my best to get back on track. One of my biggest motivators is knowing I have to face everyone and my kids would rat me out in a second! I'm as real as it gets, I promise!

Hi Nancy, great question. That depends on you. I'm a believer that you are the expert of you and no one is better qualified to give you what you need. Look at past experience. If focusing on one thing really "nails it" then that's your answer. Choose what's most important, give it your all and reward yourself for your success. That will fuel you to make the next change you want to make.

Hi Jennifer, Most people fall off. That's expected! The problem is that's when people give up and feel like it's a lost cause and go right back into their old habits. Anything new requires attention, especially creating healthy habits that last. Just contain the slip when it happens, learn from it and get back on track!
