Hi Peggy. Very good article!
My favorite Home Sales Company is the one I work for: BeautiControl Cosmetics. I've used their products for about 25 years, and sold them for about 14. The products are first rate, the prices are very reasonable, there is no cost to join--only the cost of the products, the prizes and rewards are great (we can earn a red Mustang that is ours to keep when we become a Director), the training and support are ongoing and abundant, and the commissions (both when we sell the products and when we build a team) are higher than most other companies. We are a well-established company, and we are now owned by Tupperware, so we have an even larger support base.

I know you've probably been to many "home" parties, and I don't know if you've ever considered doing them, but I work for BeautiControl and I've personally seen many families not only get out of debt, but live their dreams (including their "dream" house), by doing BC Spa Parties and building a money-making team. BC has the best training, support, commissions, and rewards of any Party Plan business. It doesn't cost anything to join--you only pay for products that you can sell and make your money back. The training is free, the products are wonderful--I've been using them for over 25 years (but they constantly improve them as new ingredients are discovered), and the parties are fun. You can work around your family's schedule (you set your own hours), and you can do a lot of work from home as you develop your repeat client base. I'd love to have you on my team. So sorry you're going through all this. Our family has gone through quite a bit over the last few years--so many people have. It doesn't make it any easier to know you're not the only one, though, so it's good to have a place to rant and at least get some kind words in return. I do know that many families who have been in similar situations have gotten out of them through the company I work for. If you want to know more, just let me know. Try to meditate or something, though, so the stress doesn't get to you.

That happened to my husband with a "free" laptop deal. Most credit card companies know about these scams and will work with you--ususally they just credit you for the charge if you tell them what happened. But you have to keep up with it. It's always good to make others aware of the companies that are doing it, though--even in red. LOL

Very well written article, Melissa. It's too bad that so many people take advantage of something good and mess it up for the others. I have sold BeautiControl Cosmetics since the early 90s, and although I haven't made tons of money at it, it's because I really haven't had to and I haven't been able to put the time into my business that I needed to in order to make tons of money (because of my personal situation and having moved quite a bit). But I know women in the business who make lots of money just by selling the products to customers who have continued to order from them (because the products are so good and they are fairly priced).
BeautiControl is a MLM business, in that we also make money on the sales of the people that we get to join; but the ones at the top who have been with the company for years are not the only ones that can make tons of money--anyone who joins the company can make lots of money very quickly.
And you don't even have to be a salesperson with BeautiControl (or any company with great products at a fair price), Marsha. All you have to do is love the products, be excited about them, and share. That's all I do, and I'm not a salesperson, either.

So sorry you're in so much pain--and that doctor should be shot full of holes, too. See how he likes it. I hate percocet--be sure you take a stool softener or you'll be in a different pain. You don't need that, too!

Tuesday would be better--then if you have to mail or have something delivered on Tuesday, you could always use UPS or Fed Ex and you'd still have a choice. If they take away Saturday, then only Fed Ex will deliver on Saturday--unless you want to pay big bucks.

Congratulations, Warren. It is a great classic. One that people should read or watch and learn from (after getting past the humor of the ridiculousness of it). Unfortunately, not many do learn until it's too late.

I agree with you, Jack, except for the idea that McCain is out of it. If you mean out of his mind--he very well could be. But if you mean out of the race, I think that's a dangerous idea. We can't be complacent, and think that we have won the election. Look what happened in the last election.

We put about $60 in our van (Atlanta suburbs) on 9/18 and fortunately haven't had to get any since (my husband is disabled and we have 2 home-based businesses, so we don't have to go out much or far). We got the gas for $3.56 at Murphy Oil (after waiting in line for about 15 minutes), and the next day and for a couple of days afterwards we saw it for $4.10-$4.79 at a few stations (with very long lines). The rest of the stations had no gas. Then most of last week we didn't see any stations with gas. My daughter was allowed to work from home (I hope other companies that could do that did the same). I don't agree that much of the problem was caused by people topping off their tanks. I think most people and most companies really tried to conserve gas usage (besides, who would want to wait in line for a half hour or more just to top off their tank?). I think that was just something Sonny Perdue said to take away any responsibility to do anything about it.

I don't know how the gas station owners will survive without gas for so long. I think we will have a shortage of another sort when we finally get gas again--no gas stations. We all know the owners are not the ones who make the money on the over-priced gas. So they probably don't have money put aside to pay their expenses, and with no money coming in, they will probably be forced to close.
