Well, Chuck, I and a Canadian MD (oncologist) were talking last night, and we came up with a way to solve the entire U.S. problem (health care, national debt, decline of the middle class, etc.). Just past a VAT (Value Added Tax) that is applied to all (at in ALL) purchases. That means all stock purchases, it would knock the hell out of speculation because every time you flipped a stock there would be a small tax applied. Buy a home to speculate, and the tax applies when you buy and when you flip it.
By applying the tax to all transactions, it would no longer be regressive, and there would be money to pay off the national debt, provide for health care, "and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity ..."

Thanks. Yeah, I think that my Dad was pretty sharp. I'll give you one example. He only had the equivalent of a high school education, and he had never had a class in electricity or mechanics. I saw him take a truck generator apart, remove the winding from the armature (counting the number of turns and marking the notches), go to town and buy the same kind of wiring, and rewind the generator armature. When he put it back together, it worked.

God was really in a terrible shape during the U.S. Civil War. He was required to wear both Blue and Gray, and naturally, he was on both sides.

In Iraq there was a very clear alternative -- don't lie, don't blame some one not involved, but the Shrub did both and even most churches supported him.
