You're right in saying that teens using cough medicine to get high is nothing new.…but this dangerous form of abuse isn't going away, either. The Five Moms have been aware of cough medicine abuse for a while, but there are certainly some parents out there who don't know about this serious problem. That's why the four other moms and I have made it our mission to educate parents about cough medicine abuse and raise awareness about this scary trend among others.

Thanks for giving us some insight into your knowledge and opinions about cough medicine abuse. Your response is exactly the kind of discussion that the five moms are hoping will emerge from our campaign. I joined this campaign to make sure that parents—and grandparents, like yourself—are made aware of this trend. As you have alluded, cough medicine abuse has been around for awhile and there is no doubt that when it is abused in extreme quantities, it can be very dangerous.

Our goal is to engage parents by making them aware of this danger and to give them the tools that they need to protect their children. We are not here to give a "fix-all" solution or tell parents how to raise their children. Each family and each child is different and requires its own way of handling issues like cough medicine abuse. The Five Moms want to provide suggestions and resources for parents so they have the information they need to make sure that their child doesn't end up in the hospital.

Your participation is just the beginning of making many more parents aware. Every parent has the right to know what is happening, and I, and the other five moms will do everything we can to make sure of this. We hope you will continue to spread the word too.
