Good question! I was grappling with that question today. Maybe because we want to be perfect. No one's perfect, we are just in need of improvement. Easy to say, but hard to remember at the proper moment. I guess it just takes a lot of practice. Keep on practicing.

I meant the above comment for Lady of the Lake. But , Jennifer , I know what you are going through with your son. I always felt for my children and now i do for my grandchildren. We always want our children to be happy. It's very hard to live with this peer pressure. Just keep on encouraging Ethan and tell him how great he is.

I know how you feel, Jennifer. We all seem to want approval, but why? I read somewhere that we like approval because it makes us feel good about ourselves. But, truthfully, why can't we just approve of ourselves and not care what other people think. I know, that's very hard to do, but let's try. Lot's of luck. I am your friend.

I feel that the 2nd amendment should be abridged. I believe its the 2nd amendment. "Man's right to bear arms" should be deleted. There are too many killings lately, more than i ever heard of. It's very scary.

That is beautiful , Sigal. You expressed all my feelings. I, too, am trying to keep quiet. It's hard because i don't like people to get away with things. But, when i'm quiet, i don't feel upset after a while. Tammy, that's a good idea to write down your thought, it does go out of your head. But, i have to remember to have a paper and a pencil nearby....Someone told me, "when you keep your thought to yourself, you are the master of it, but when you say the thought it becomes the master of you." Dont worry sigal, your kids are completely normal. My grand kids on both sides of the ocean scream, punch each other , love tv and computers, go to bed late....my children go thru the same things you are going through. In fact, my grandkids in israel scream so loud that i can hear them in Brooklyn, NY. There are lots of qvetches in this world and she is just one of them. Just ignore. You don't need her approval. I am also naaive and i am a bit older than you, but i am learning. I think back how i let people in my family get away with schtuss, and the nervy things they said to me, and I didnt say a word. Now , they wouldn't dare because i am speaking up. But , i have to learn not to scream when i speak up, that's hard to do. Do you every get daily uplifts from Aish. com. I asked this question to be facetious. thanks for taking the time out to answer....most of my posts do not get too many comments. i don't know why....maybe they're too thought provoking...i notice the people who post a question like....how many boys names do you know that begin with A their is over 100 comments. When i first signed up for gather there were loads of intelligent people posting and there was loads of intelligent answers. I really loved it then.

reading your post and the comments that ensued made me feel very good. We used to play bouncing a ball and turning our foot over it at a special time to the tune of "A my name is anna and my husbands name is Alfred....We played statues, hide n seek, Old Mother Witch what time is it, stoop ball, potsie, hopskotch and jumprope. I remember my children making a tent by putting quilts over the chairs and they said they are going camping. That was in the sixties. Now, my grandson loves to build buildings, etc. with lego blocks. he loves legos. But, he also loves computer games, the computer, and ipods. But, he doesn't go bicycling or other outdoor sports. That i find sad. Oh Well, I can't fight this new generation. I wonder what the next generation will do for fun?

remember those swings, Sadie....also , i still have a scar on my knee which looks like a piece of gravel, its still gray, which i received when i was seven years old , which was about 63 years ago. 63 year old scar, wow!
