Actually, Chuck, they've shot themselves in the foot with the conservative Bible project. The fact is that the very people they're aiming at with this conservative "translation" of the Bible are the "KJV only" crowd, and a lot of them are sincerely pissed off at Andy and friends. I've already heard two radio sermons blasting the thing as blasphemy. Andy really didn't think this thing through very well, did he?

Heh, heh! Actually, Brad, if you'd been to my blog on Thursday you would have seen me in one of my hats posing as Guy Noir in the sidebar, complete with the opening quote: "A dark night in a city that knows how to keep its secrets. But on the 12th floor of the Acme building one man is still trying to find the answers to life's persistent questions - Guy Noir, private Eye!" And yes, I typed that from memory.

Living in a seaport, I eat seafood and fish as often as possible, especially because, as a person with cholesterol issues, these are foods that are good for a heart-healthy diet. The difference, of course, is that I eat local catch rather than buy canned fish of any kind (and tuna is NOT heart-healthy anyhow). So we get lots of Striper and Bluefish and Tautog (Blackfish) and such, as well as some Cod and Haddock. I eat as any person would who lived on the sea coast. Maybe that's the answer - if you eat what's produced locally a lot of these shortages would never happen.

Yup! MaryAnne took the flag off, and being the well-brought-up young lad that I am I thanked her for the prompt response.

I think one of our resident friends of Don Wildmon, James Dobson, and Bill O'Reilly decided that like the Gap and some other companies, I needed to be punished for not paying the proper obeisance to Christmas, having included horribly pagan and unchristian names for the day, like Winter Holidays, Yule, and Winter Solstice. Apparently us non-Christians are to be persecuted for not being Christian. How medieval!

Texans can be an odd bunch. When you're there it often seems as if you're in a foreign country, and the citizens often don't consider themselves Americans as much as they consider themselves Texans. Texas is the only state allowed to fly their state flag in front of/above the US flag; it was one of the conditions they insisted on in joining the US in 1845 (they had been an independent republic before joining the union). Until 9/11, you almost never saw the US flag flying; it was always the Lone Star; somehow the bombing of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon must have raised their national patriotism over their Texan patritism. Although I have the feeling that now that Dubya no longer resides in DC, they may go back to flying the Lone Star instead of the US flag.

It's good to see that the Old Lady (the Boston Opera House, that is) is still thriving and looks as beautiful as ever. And I'm gobsmacked that Topol is only now just getting around to retiring his Tevye. That's got to be the longest run of one actor playing one character; somebody call Guinness World Records!
