Funny how the concept of limbo seems to have affected those of us who were raised to believe. Your poem mirrors much of what my child's mind could envision when thinking about this rather terrifying place.

It also causes the reader to ponder own the nature of their own entrapments. Very deep....

I sense a bit of sarcasm or sardonic word craft in this piece Mike. Though of course.... we know hell is filled with abominable tortures, and of course... we know the soul deserved his place in the festering heat.

Yet the worthy one who enters into heaven it seems is not much better-just craftier? More calculating? Having read Dante, I prefer this.... more honest:)

This is yet another masterful use of words to create a rather quicksilver concept of past connected to that unnamed, unknown future. I love the way you weave this together to create another poetic masterpiece. I do not praise lightly nor often. But I believe you are the best poet I've read in modern history. Your poems are works of art. Each word sharp, clear and chosen with such care. Never stop gifting us with your artistc vision.

Great visual and tactile feel to this piece. I can feel the cool sheets and lie there listening to the whispering fan, sheltered from the hot afternoon sun. This is a clever use of wordcraft Mike. Taut, yet utterly sensual.
