I drive a foreign car because I can't get 38 mpg in the city from any American-made vehicle.
I don't need to haul a baseball team around, and I sure don't need a car that cost as much as my house did. I agree wholeheartedly, GM needs to do better.

Marilyn, why is it that you take Jesus everywhere you go, but you ignore everything he ever said? What is the point of being devoted to a teacher if you discard his message? This is why church and state must be separate.
I have no objection to you voting your conscience, none whatever. But when your preacher tells you how to vote, for reasons I do not know, I start feeling a little paranoid.
Politics is a world of "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours." I don't know who is scratching your preacher's back, but I know that as a "spiritual" leader, his opinions hold far more power over people than they would otherwise. He may have the best reasons in the world for telling you to vote a certain way. He must not tell you in church, under the guise of a religious leader. OR your church should register as a lobbying organization and pay taxes.

Someone once told me that the R.C.C. opposes birth control because more Catholics equals more $$ in the basket.

Tax any property used for both worship purposes AND political advocacy. And any income that arises from any except non-political worship services.

Again, church authorities have no business preaching to congregants on how to vote. If the people can't figure it out on their own, and the churches need to tell them how to vote, then the churches have ceased to be spiritual bodies and have become political ones.

There is nothing wrong with being a Christian. There is nothing wrong with allowing your Christianity (Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, etc) direct your vote. There is a great deal wrong with your priest, minister, imam or other religious authority telling you how you should vote in church.

I've read 43 of them. I also have a degree in English literature. Most of those I read on my own, although Dreiser (and I had to read a lot of Dreiser) was a forced march for a senior seminar. I don't think I could have understood many of these before I got to college age.

They still sell souse in the farmers' markets in parts of PA, or at least they did when I lived there 30 years ago. They also sell head cheese (which may contain head, but I doubt the 'cheese' part).
Most Pennsylvania Dutch cooking is delicious. You have to remember when you read the recipes that these people lived by hard manual labor. They still use draft horses and mules to plow their fields. A body on that kind of work regimen can stand up to a lot more fat and calories than an inhabitant of cubicleville. They are also very frugal, so you won't find the part of an animal they shun using.
Still, I'm not real interested in most of these dishes.

Franklin, it's galling to be told "you must" do anything to many people. However, consider the fact that health insurance Is not insurance at all, and you will begin to see why it was made mandatory.

Norm, if doctors leave because they aren't making enough money, good riddance. Physicians should work because they love what they do. If they want to be rich, they should become bankers-- or bank robbers.

Colonel, you look at this as though we have to pay the bill at the end of the month. In business, there is an ebb and flow to money; things float, and if the business is successful, it all comes out in the wash. Now that everyone will be responsible to buy their own health care, as they are able, I won't have to pay double through the back door with high premiums and higher bills to cover people who have no insurance, but still need health care. I also might get seen sooner at an emergency room when I have an emergency.

Perhaps I gave the idea that I think all our troubles are over. They are not. A bad bill can be remedied. No bill. . . well you saw how that worked with Clinton's health care reform bill. We could all be dead and gone (because of lack of access to health care) before another chance came to do this. Baby steps are still steps.
