There is a middle ground between a program you're passionate about and a program that is little more than hype. And you're right, it comes down to doing your homework. There are many successful and profitable affiliate marketing programs available. They should not be confused with network marketing programs. The average person ends up losing money with a network marketing program.

It's also important to remember that the average return will be relatively small. It's like being a mystery shopper. Don't expect more than a few dollars for your time. And don't forget you'll increase the number of junk emails you receive.

One of the main reasons people don't make money online is because too many marketers leave folks with unrealistic expectations. People find out that making money online requires work when they thought it would be as easy as falling off a log. Or they have visions of big checks rolling in every month when that usually doesn't happen in the beginning.

A wise person once said, "Internet marketing is simple, but it's not easy." The basic concept is very simple. Get people to a website, have them click on a link, then collect a commission. But to be successful you'll need to treat your business like a business, and not like a hobby or pasttime.

We all suffer from the current political systems. The process is completely broken. The country is too divided to do much about it right now. You can point to any number of problems with the system; corruption, greed, apathy, the list goes on. But the one thing that is standing in the way of resolving this is the "us-versus-them" mentality that grips the country. No one party has all of the right answers.

Mary - Our biggest and best resource is elance.com for almost everything. The last time I checked, the top producing writer had pocketed over $100K over the last 6 months. We go there for writers, programmers, administrative help, everything. On the low end you can make $5.00 for every 400 word niche article you write to 4-figures for sales copy. I usually pump out a few articles each week to make a little mad money.

There are quite a few sites looking for writers. Those of us in the internet marketing world are always looking for new content. We can keep you busy writing for as long as you can write. You can quit your day job if you can write good sales copy.

I think Gather never anticipated the backlash of allowing us to 'police' ourselves. Anybody can flag anything. The actual content doesn't matter until Gather looks at it. That may take days. But Gather guidlines are pretty broad when they define unacceptable content. So actually the system, as it is currently configured is destined to fail.

I wouldn't say people just starting out are lazy, but I do agree they are misguided. I have seen too many people sucked in by the "all-in-on-system" approach. The slick copy says that 94% of the work is already done. Too many people believe there is a magic plug-and-play systems they can set and forget. That NEVER, EVER works. And true, most folks trying to start an online business don't think of it as a "business." They don't treat it as a business. That's obvious when you find out that most folks don't have a business plan, let alone understand why they need one.

Once an account has been turned over to a collection agency you can get help from one of the three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, Trans Union). A call to one alerts the other two. If you don't owe the money, they will make the collection agency leave you alone. Just remember, the collection agency works on commission. The staff is highly motivated to get any money out of you any way they can, regardless if you owe it or not. They really don't care.
