I'm sorry to hear that! I posted a couple of news releases on Gather, but they do seem to get lost in the avalanche of great articles on this site.

However, if you'd like to get on our list to get information about next year's e-mail me and I'll put you on it. We're looking at February for next year's conference. May is just too crazy! In the meantime, you're also welcome to contact me if you'd like to purchase the e-book from this year. It's got almost all the chats and the forum workshops, plus handouts from each presenter. I can't blame them for wanting to make money--they're a business after all--but the more ethical practice (I believe) would be to make their POD program a competitive deal and entice publishers instead of using their overpowering on-line market presence to force small presses to deal with them and only them.

It's going to backfire. We're already seeing that.

You forgot pet-friendly. Some hotels charge fo allow animal guests; others do it for free. Don't trust Orbitz to get it right, though if searching with them. We discovered that yesterday.

Another great use for plastic food containters (esp the take-out kind). use them when you're giving a meal to someone or when you're taking part in a pot-luck. then you don't need to worry about losing dishes.

could not have happened to a better guy! When I first joined gather, I had no idea what to do here. He devoted part of his day to leading me though the site and helping me get started. I know I'm not the only lost soul he's helped. Congrats!

Well, once upon a time, science fiction was only for nerds who wasted their time daydreaming. And a lot of it was. Those who did take their work seriously, and wrote intelligent stories with good plots and writing rather than drek, brought the genre into its own and have made it popular as well. (It may be "fringe" genre, but it takes up more bookshelf space in our Borders than the literature section.)

I may not make a lot of money on Infinite Space, Infinite God, but I did it for enjoyment and because I was interested in the topic. I think others will be, too. it may never become a classic like Canticle of Leibowitz, but I hope it will also become one of those books that will help folks see that faith-filled speculative fiction does not need to be drek or high-handed, over-the-top religiosity disguised as a story.

Infinite Space, Infinite God, incidentally is not about Catholicism being superior (no "everyone goes to Hell but Catholics") nor is it about guilt. It's about people faced with incredible challenges and how their faith shapes thier response--adn how their responses affect thier faith. I invite you to check it out: http://isigsf.tripod.com.

As for "Left behind: the Unending Series," I'll simply say you and I are in agreement as to its quality and message and leave it at that. :-)

I have mixed feelings about e-book publishing myself. The first, of course, is getting a more protable and easy-on-the-eyes reader. I can only do so much with my laptop, and frankly, I'm too easily distracted by e-mail, IM, and my own writing calling to me.

As for using e-books for promotion, I've heard from many that it's actually quite successful. Several big publishers already offer e-book versions of their previuosly-published stuff and small press tend to e-publish fisrt, then go to print. that's how Twilight times did Infinite Space, Infinite God. ISIG comes out in August, and we're expecting terrific response based on the success of the e-book. My royalties off either are about the same.

Another problem with e-books is they are so easy to copy, but the music and video industry have the same problem, and they seem able to survive it.

The bottom line, though, is as you said: anyone fighting progress is tilting at windmills.

It is funny, however to watch my car crucifix swing when I turn and break. Sometimes, we use it to explain physics to the kids.

This is a great article! Other ideas--are there other "Atlantis" legends, for a lost undersea village? Or play off the flood story--there are a ton of flood legends, yet most of us believe the one of Noah's Ark--could it be these other "lost" villages are atop some impossibly high remote mountain? (May have to use a past setting or style for that).

Anyway, cool ideas.

Ah, but the field is growing! Certainly inspiratonal romance is big, but I'm more interested in SF/Fantasy. I've found several groups working to promote the sub-genre: The Lost Genre Guild, the Christian Fiction Review Blog and Christian Sci-Fi Fantasy Review blog roll are a few. My own book website, www.virtualbooktourdenet.blogspot.com lists several titles as well.
