There are some marked difference between TSA, who are faced with having to deal with jijad terrorists, unannounced, and no time allowed to negotiate with a union, and other organizations such as the border patrol. The consensus of opinion seems to be that airline security decisions in these grave matters should not be dictated by union bosses.

The major concern is that it would cripple TSA's flexibility in responding to emergencies by having to come to union agreement, before altering procedures in the face of a terrorist emergency.

A former TSA head (Hawley) testified, "Union bargaining would not provide the flexibility required to wage war against terrorism."

TSA workers already have "key rights." They can have union representation at disciplinary, personnel, and discriminatory issues, or the basic administrative issues.

Why the rush to appoint a TSA director, when it took Obama eight months to submit a nomination for the job? Where was the outrage during that time? TSA has been without a "permanent" chief since Obama took office, awaiting a nomination, even though there has been an acting chief.

There are many who feel the block by Sen DeMint is justified.

Many are opposed to Obama's nominee, Erroll Southers, for several reasons: Unionizing TSA, which would mean "collective bargaining over security procedures and it is felt that would put traveler's lives at risk by preventing the TSA from responding rapidly to new intelligence, and by replacing merit promotions with seniority schedules."

Would we also want to unionize the military, or the CIA?

It boils down to: Do we want a manager who is trying to protect travelers or a Union President making decisions for the daily operation of aircraft security?

There is a further blotch and "pending censure" for Souther's for when he misused government databases to receive personal information on his ex wife's boyfriend. This may be a point of contention for the senator in the process.

Southers later said, "I recognize that it was a mistake to have used my official connections to investigate the matter."

Further, since Feb, 2009, TSA began testing for using body scanners instead of metal detectors, so there have been efforts to update their scanning methods.

Qing-Bin Lu, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Waterloo in Canada, predicts 50 years of cooling for earth.
Jens Bischof is author of Ice Drift, Ocean Circulation And Climate Change and is a research assistant professor in Old Dominion’s Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, says the earth may be cooling instead of warming.

Marc Morano authored and compiled the 2007 groundbreaking report of 400-plus dissenting scientists and the follow-up 2009 report of 700-plus scientists dissenting from man-made global warming fears. (Adding Al Gore's globe warming documentary is "nonsense")

Geophysicist Dr. Claude Allegre, a top Geophysicist and French Socialist who has authored more than 100 scientific articles, written 11 books, and received numerous scientific awards including the Goldschmidt Medal from the Geochemical Society of the United States, says, ""The amount of nonsense in Al Gore's film! It's all politics; it's designed to intervene in American politics. It's scandalous." Allegre believes the global warming hysteria is motivated by money. "The ecology of helpless protesting has become a very lucrative business for some people!"

A German (I believe) scientist, (Svensmark) along with a team of scientists, climatologists, astronomers, geology and ocean experts, etc. recently concluded an 8 year study (The Cloud Mystery) which causes them to believe and report that global warming is caused by the sun, how cosmic rays, producing aerosols, effect clouds, cloud cover, etc. (very briefly.) They say there is no scientific evidence that can deny this.

These do not deny there is global warming. Nor do they deny something must be done about the 4% of CO2 emissions that are caused by humans. Why allot hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to the yet unproven causes they cite, and why make a few billionaires out of proponents who may be pushing false conclusions in order to line their own pockets with green. The earth has gone through warming and cooling cycles for billions of years. We can't stop that, or arrange/change it's schedule no matter how much money we may pour into it. Again, other planets, where no humans live, are experiencing the same warming cycles

My reason for listing those here is only to provide an example of the wide disagreement about global warming and it's cause, and the 74% of Americans who wrote critical letters about Gore's article in Newsweek on the subject.

The point is that references can be provided and refuted, to no avail, as you have done here to those I provided, and as I could do to those you may provide.

My focus now is "follow the money," on this issue. Gore is personally invested to make gazillions. So is Pachauri, head of IPCC, who will, most likely be investigated. This is aside from the FBI investigation requested by OK Sen. Inhofe. It is curious, and downright suspicious when a majority believe the global warming issue is driven by money and political motivations. This issue cries for a thorough, unbaised investigation since those of us who are not climatolgoists, etc, cannot know, and when the sources of reports, thus far, are not trusted.

I, too, am a climate change skeptic based on the many reports that show global warming alarmists are less than accurate in their reporting Ever heard of "Climate Gate?" Kimberly Dozier, CBS News Correspondent reported about the string of hacked private e-mails between global climate change scientists in the U.S. and Europe. This report cast doubts on the "true" science of the scientists who decided to exclude or manipulate data that didn't help prove that global warming exists; and worked hard to demonstrate upward trends.

Further, they point to the fact that Mars and Pluto are also warming ...no humans live there! Earth...all planets...have normal warming and cooling cycles, they say.

Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Inhofe - a climate change skeptic, also - says the Climate Gate emails prove the global warming threat is exaggerated, and he is requesting a congressional investigation. This may be what is actually needed in order to separate the wheat from the chaff in lieu of the fact that Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Americans say it’s at least somewhat likely that some scientists have falsified research data to support their own theories and beliefs about global warming. I guess we all share in your indignation at another attempted attack on the US by terrorists. Osama bin Laden declared: On September 11th, the “real targets were America’s icons of military and economic power.”

This clearly shows terrorists perception of the U.S. as "an occupier, criminal, and oppressor, driven by economic and religious neo-imperialist goals. This, however, stands in sharp contrast to the positive light in which the U.S. sees itself: an exceptional, benevolent superpower."

How do we defend against the unknown, the uncertain, the unseen and the unexpected? Terrorists lack a return address and its members could care less about the threat of death. Women and children are turned in to suicide killers, used to carry bombs to specified locations. Fighting this prompts a war of uncertain duration, and who do we declare this war on? There's Al-Qaeda, Jihad, and Taliban all hiding out in caves and mountains all over Pakistan and Afghanistan. There are other terrorists residing in other places, as well. It has been reported there are terrorist training sites in the USA. All in all, the terrorist ideal is vague and broad, and difficult to pursue effectively, and would, most likely qualify as an unwinnable war. The U.S. has, in the past, had wars where we knew the enemy, we knew where he lived. This is fighting small guerilla forces hiding all over many different countries, even receiving support from some of the locals of those places.

So, share the indignation that we all feel, but follow it with a better mousetrap of how to deal with it, above and beyond current actions.

Weellll Ron, you got me to thinkin'....

Sometimes I think the whole insanity in our system is "US." When I say US...I mean WE...All of us....republicans, democrats, liberals, conservatives...however we label ourselves.

We do just what our elected reps want us to do when we're at war with each other, fighting amongst ourselves, not being united in what we want from... and expect from... those that WE gave that plush job to... from the president on down , in the political system.

When we defend any person that we know is wrong, because he is our "party" representative, we are taking the heat off him, and he doesn't have to correct that behavior. They know they have to keep us from ever uniting. They know many do not go to the polls on election day to show displeasure with their performance, and vote them out of office.

ANd so, the whole problem with this comment so far is that Us, and WE will never agree , so we stand behind the one who best represents our beliefs for what is right. We choose a side to be on, and begin the call to duty to insult those not on our side. In other words, we "settle." We leave the politicians to do what they darn well please, once elected, regardless of all the promises to get our vote, because they know we're out on the battlefield fighting each other, not watching them, or holding their feet to the fire. We don't. We never have or they wouldn't be living the life of kings that they do while we struggle to give them plush aircraft to fly them and their familes around in...just to name ONE of the many bene's they receive of a nature of this magnitude.

S i l l y thinking, I know. It takes a lot, too much, to ever get us riled enough to openly rebel and have a "real" Boston Tea Party, only AFTER the damage is done. But what if....what if? OK...back to the real world. Just thinking out loud.

Gore and Pachauri make Madoff look like a piker through their scamming and they stand to make huge, huge fortunes off the global warming hoax.

"A Mumbai-based Indian multinational conglomerate with business ties to Rajendra K. Pachauri, the chairman since 2002 of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, stands to make several hundred million dollars in European Union carbon credits simply by closing a steel production facility in Britain with the loss of 1,700 jobs."

And these parasites profit through throwing people out of work.

Then: "Follow the money. Best advice you can get for finding cockroaches. The worst here is that the UN and this despicable administration are trying to ram it as fast as possible. The president of the United Stated trying to stop the economy for profit, isn't that a definition of treason?"

I do believe we should go on with business as usual, and our business as usual has been, and continues to be a great and active awareness of caring for our earth...for many years. This did not all start with the Al Gore scare tactic hoax. This concern, and doing something about it has been in the works a long time. The last thing that should have happened was for this to go political.

The real fact is that the earth’s been cooling off these last few years. 1998 was our warmest year on record and there have been cooling trends since then. Again, nature taking her course. This cooling completely erased the last century’s entire rise in average temperature. On the other hand, Mars and Jupiter have been heating up on average, and no humans live on those planets.

Another fact is that we are running out of fossil fuels, so replacement alternatives have to be in the works. And they are. We're driving more hybrid cars, we're looking at hydropower, nuclear, solar, wind, methanol, and on and on. We need to consider that our dependence on oil keeps us politically involved in the far east, and may contribute to terrorism.

I've seen figures that quoted a cost of 200 billion dollars a year to switch, but adding that the switch would pay for itself, and then some.

It is important to remember; however, that human activity is NOT the chief driver of climate change. It’s been true prehistorically and historically, and it is certainly true now. The cooling trend here is likely a short-term matter; similar drops have been recorded before. But the fault is not primarily man’s — what he contributes to greenhouse gases is very small compared to what nature can and does contribute.

That doesn’t mean that we humans should just do as we please. We do need to start making our lifestyles sustainable. But first, we need to get the likes of Al Gore, and those looking to make m/billions on a false theory out of it.

That is about the only thing you said that made any sense. The climate change thing IS a hoax, a giant hoax. All you need do is "follow the money." Start with Al Gore, and his personal investments. They're all in anti- climate change companies, (companies we don't need for the climate change he invented) as are all the other big proponets of climate change. I do thank God there are individuals who question this hoax, ask for evidence to support their claim...a claim that even they can't prove.

Have you checked out "Climate Gate." The string of hacked private emails where global warming scientists, climatologists, supposedly some of the worlds top experts, who supported global warming, were caught red-handed, when they decided to exclude or manipulate some valid research from other experts... then deny or otherwise do away with those study results... which proved global warming does NOT exist.

Many Senators and Congressman, including Oklahoma Republican Sen James Inhofe, a climate change skeptic, says the emails prove the global warming threat is exaggerated, and wants a congressional investigation.

"We are relying upon that science for a bunch of stuff that we would be doing that would lose a lot of jobs and really affect Americans." Inhofe told CBS. "I do believe an investigation would show that they clearly manipulated the data."

Exaggerated is the key word. No one denies there is normal climate change, and there always has been. It is not to the Al Gore scare tactic stage. Al Gore and company just want to get rich (er) from the scare tactic hoax they have perpetrated. Man's contribution to the carbon footprint is less than 4% and is handled by earth and Mother Nature operating in the natural cycles as they have always done ... without us declaring that the sky is falling.

Read the resignation letter of Chris Landsea from IPCC. This letter shows the fraud committed by the IPCC.

Then you said,

"Rape and pillage the earth, because Gawd himself gave us permission to subdue the earth and every living thing in it. Well, at least it's written in that Big Book somewhere..."

I challenge you to show me anything in that Big Book, Anywhere, that said anything even remotely similar to that.

The climate on earth has undergone many and severe changes that far exceed what we have experienced in the last 100 years. Earth's last ice age ended about 12,000 years ago. Interglacial periods in between the ice ages were warmer than our current climate. Clearly, man was not responsible for the warming and cooling between ice ages.

No one talks about the reduced costs and benefits of a warmer climate ! Such as longer growing seasons, farming at higher latitude, milder winters mean less gas and fuel for heating. Great for countries like Canada and Russia.

Further, due to the buoyancy of ice, arctic ice melts won't raise sea levels, because the ice has been floating in the water, and displaces all the water it would have if it melted.

George Bush has a long way to go to match the disaster that was Andrew Jackson’s Presidency.

The general public, once gave Bush the highest approval ratings ever recorded by a president.

No historian can responsibly predict how history will record the future presidential rating with absolute certainty, and particularly not just a year after a president leaves office.

More differences between Obama and Bush, and Obama and any other president.

To attempt to place any blame on GW Bush,at this point, is nothing more than desperate rhetoric. This is now Obama's war, which he has escalated, and this is now Obama's economy, which he has single handedly overseen the near destruction of.

To list just a few more:

Obama has the lowest, 1-year, approval of job rating than any other president in history.

Obama has already broken nine (9) campaign promises.

Obama increased the National Debt more than any other president in one year. (a record)

Obama goes abroad and and disses the United States, and attacks it's capatalistic system. (first time for a president)

Obama causes the American people to fear the threat of Socialism for this country. (a first)

Obama bowed—at nearly a 90 degree angle—while shaking hands with Japanese Emperor Akihito. (a first)

Obama pushes a health care system that 53% of Americans disagree with. (a record)

Obama pushes Global Warming that almost half of Americans disagree with. (a record)

Heads a government incapable of handling his "Cash for Clunkers" program, among others. (A first, due to inexperience.)

By what constitutional authority did Obama take over the banking and automobile industries? (Doesn't this action present a first, and make it constitutionally suspect?)

For the first time, a member of Congress called the President a liar to a foreign nation. (China) (Not appropriate but Rep Kirk is right on fact, but wrong in action.)

And the beat goes on....

Congratulations. You have presented this issue in a clear and concise manner, and well documented references that unequivocally prove the point.

Those who choose to disagree at this point will likely never look beyond their deep rooted beliefs otherwise, and continue with silly refutations. That is, of course, a good thing in that it causes other aspects of the issue to be brought to light for consideration, where an intelligent conclusion can be reached.

When all the information is in, it is crystal clear that the global warming issue and man's contribution to it, as originally presented by Al Gore, the IPCC, and company is a hoax, and does nothing more than make billionaires of Gore and those pushing that concept.

Follow the money, and look at their investments in future anti-global warming devices. Unnecessary devices because they cannot refute that Global warming will alter, and self correct, because of natural variations in the climate, and in the same cycles.

Further, for consideration, and to reiterate that the May 1 study in Nature essentially finds that global warming will have stopped for nearly 20 years (1998 until 2015). According to the UK Telegraph article; “Writing in Nature, the scientists said: ‘Our results suggest that global surface temperature may not increase over the next decade, as natural climate variations in the North Atlantic and tropical Pacific temporarily offset the projected anthropogenic [man-made] warming.

It's been my experience in reading some comments on Gather, that most commentors probably have a basic, or common knowledge about the subject they're commenting on... but have a need to twist it to express their prejudices/ political leanings, etc. on the issues and tend to NOT disagree intelligently, as witnessed by comments on just this post.

On Apr 6, 2009, while Obama was in Turkey he said, "We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation."

Perhaps Obama should familiarize himself with this nation's Constitution. The founding fathers might disagree with him !

"In God we trust," appears on U.S. coins and currency. GOD, LIBERTY, LAW appears in the folds of the bars of the American flag. There are legislative days of Thanksgiving. "Under God," was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954. The Declaration of Independence refers to human rights as "the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them." There are many indications that this IS a Christian nation. Wikipedia says that 76% of Americans identify themselves as Christians.
