I'm a true believer that drinking wrecks marriages.. my ex husband started drinking after several years of marriage.. it was then that he started carrousing with women. He was spending money we didn't have for booze and for women... he was even paying another woman's rent with OUR money! He was a good husband before he started boozing.

"indentured servant" I think that mentality continues today in some marriages. So many men expect to be treated like the king of his castle, while he treats his wife like a second class citizen. Great article. So glad that all women are not treated this way now. We do owe our very lives to the women who came before us.

My mom was a child during this time. She came from a well to do family, but still they felt the pressure. My mom had some quirks that always annoyed me. One was she always saved food not eaten in the refrigerator, and it would grow 'hair'.. and still be in there. I'd throw it out with the container when it stunk really bad. Her excuse for 'saving' the food was that during the depression food was scarce. Thing is.. it never got eaten... she had other habits too that was passed on to her by her family during the depression. I am fortunate to have never lived in such times. I think it changes a person for life.

Censorship is wrong. You no longer have a free society if books or speech is sensored. No, you can't use hate speech or threatening speech to harm someone.. but books... someone will read the books written, even if I find them distasteful. Everyone has a right to express their thoughts.

People write books telling how to get away with murder, how to do all manner of henious things, I'm sure... but to censor one book would start the censorship of any book one finds offensive.

It's terrible how prison guards will just stand by and let her kill herself and not interfere. It's stupidity like this that will ruin careers, and make heads roll for not using common sense. An institution, or the state or province makes rules and then workers follow to the rules to the letter, letting common sense fall to the wayside.
