Legalizing and privatizing the sale of "Mary" could have other unforeseen benefits. Nobody protects their market like a capitalist. Instead of relying on the DEA, legal drug producers can hire the most powerful lawyers on the planet and sue the pants off Mexican, Columbian and Turkish drug cartels. Can you see some drug lord trying to deal with an anti-trust suit? On top of that, the California branch of the National Guard will be sent out to crush every meth lab in the Inland Empire under pressure from the legislature to "clean up the market."

Look what our drug industry did to our friends in Canada over LEGAL drugs. If the Russian Mafia can't get fake Levis past US Customs, what chance would the drug cartels have? Mary lobbyists will make sure Congress makes keeping illegal drugs an ECONOMIC PRIORITY. And we know how well they work when properly incentivized.

Going even further, happy, well paid Mary dealers would no longer have to worry about turf wars. They'll simply drop product that is "too difficult to market" in favor of the easy Mary money. No more hanging out on street corners! They can finally get secure jobs with benefits in cushy 'Mary is Us' stores at the mall, and send their kids to college. Within a year, the War on Drugs will be over.

Great idea, John-a change worth hoping for.

Curious comments from CNN female reporters this morning before the announcement. They were talking about glass ceilings and barriers for women in politics in light of Ms. Kennedy's withdrawal. Did they not know Paterson has chosen a woman? It appears that she is well credentialed and capable of handling the job, and has an opportunity to win the 2010 election for the seat.

As Kathryn and John mention, for a novel-length work, an "outline" to me, is important. As John further points out, you have to define for yourself what an outline is. It does not have to be a "confining straight jacket." It can simply be a guide to help keep you on message as the story unfolds while you create it. I prefer to think it as chapter notes. It's like a security blanket that gives me something to refer to if I get bogged down.

I also agree with Patricia's comments on character development. Who they are, how they came to be here and what they are to accomplish drives the story.

Good Luck in your writing.

Look at the prolific work of Frank Hebert. He made tons of notes in the creation of the Dune Universe, including the ancestral history of every character in the original 5 books.

That's a 10 from me. Physics is one of my side interests, and I'm always curious to know what's popping up in the Universe. Of course, a committee will have to be formed to study this further. LOL!!
