Oh it's just a fun once a year green get-together. You don't have to get completely smashed to have a geod time drinking green beers with friends. It's unfortunate that you had to be disturbed by your neighbors on this occasion though.

I just joined Gather last week and thus far have found it a very attractive and in a way "addicting" community. I find social networking sites very interesting and join most upon coming across them. Each of them have different features and ways of interaction and the majority I explore for a while and then never return to (facebook, yahoo360, xanga, bebo, orkut...). Gather is unique because of the wealth of information you can find or contribute. Also you can interact with contributors and they with you on a variety of subjects, any subject. Groups can intermingle and conversations are encouraged. The majority of social sites I stumble upon are all about personal information. You fill out your profile and create a page, then look at other peoples information. Gather offers a different level of interaction and creativity. If you love to write and take photos it provides a wonderful source of feedback. I am more of a reader than a writer and love browsing the articles while reading others reactions to them as well.

David, your article addresses some great points and brings to mind a memory of mine. Many years ago my little brother, maybe age 12 or so, made a comment at dinner that made me (the cool older sister) laugh. He proudly announced that he had made 11 friends that day. At first I thought there was no way he could be telling the truth because I knew he was your typical nerd at school (and that was where you made friends). Then he began telling us of his friends that he had made in Delaware and other miscellaneous states far from Texas. I realized that he had not really made friends, these were just people he had met online. I thought it was sad that he couldn't make friends in the real world and had to have fake online friends as a replacement. A teenager myself at the time, I was so involved with sports and academics that I used the internet occasionally to check e-mail but nothing more. Online social interaction was a foreign concept.

I look back at my brothers comment and think differently now that I too have joined online communities. He had made some friends after all. I agree with Cindy, that online relationships are real and can be more or less important than face-to-face relationships. I've met many people online and then in person and have continued to remain in touch. It's incredibly resourceful when I think of all the wonderful people I never would have met or known if it weren't for the internet. I feel that my conventional relationships have expanded and connected from my time spent online. I admit that I do spend a substantial amount of time on the internet. But then I get up, do things and go out. There is time for both, especially when you don't sleep much ;) I cannot relate entirely to Gather because I am so new here. However, if it is anything like the other two sites I partake in (myspace and iluvkorea) then I believe the relationships are real and don't interfere with conventional ones, just as long a you keep everything balanced.

I love tortilla españolas too, but I finish mine off under the broiler instead of flipping it. I just made too many messes trying to use the flip method :) My friend likes to tease me by calling it a quiche, I point out the differences but he just wants to get under my skin. Anyway, I make these often and usually throw in some spanish chorizo...a little taste of Spain in the states!

The Yucatan is a wonderful part of Mexico and the Mayan people are very friendly. It's a very safe place and I'd highly recommend a visit.

Travis, yes I climbed up El Castillo. That was easy, the hard part was going back down. Wonder if anyone's ever rolled down that thing, man it's steep!

It's amazing how delicious the combination of a few simple ingredients can come together so deliciously. I'm a huge fan of manchego cheese, have some in the fridge and I think it's time for a snack!

The Costa del Sol is so beautiful and I haven't actually been to the Basque region but their cuisine is my favorite among the Spanish varieties. I can't get enough pintxos while I'm in Spain. Where I live in Texas I have to settle for the next best thing, tapas.

No, I didn't have this guy for dinner. I set him free, sadly. I did however fry up some of his relatives legs a few weeks later, caught from a local pond. The one in the picture resides in the Merrimack River in MO.
