Sorry, couldn't share the enthusiasm. Not as bad as the abysmal Transformers II, but then again few movies are. Destro's Scottish accent was jarring for the character, who was about as threatening as a kitten. The special effects were very much like a cartoon, which didn't fit well in a live action movie. The only thing going for this movie was Sienna Miller in tight black leather, and Snake Eyes, who managed to be cool every time he showed up. A solid D+.

That's the challenge of good dialogue. I think as a writer I sometimes overreach by trying too hard for that clever line. It still has to flow and sound natural, which is where you find the balance.

Great article. This is something I've been working on, after some great pointers from my talented friends here on Gather. I tend to over-write at first, which means I have to take my editing axe and hack away once I'm finished. But the results are worth the effort, every time.

I think 'best seller' is an accidental thing, in most cases. There are plenty of books on the bestseller list that just aren't that great. Not saying I don't want to write one (because I do, believe me). But I think a nice publishing run would make me just as happy.

I wish I had the problem of adding 10,000. My first attempt clocked over 200k, which I'm trying to get down to 150k or less. I know I can do it, though.

No excuses. I'm submitting until my brain explodes this coming year. I have one finished novel, another finished draft awaiting editing, and a novel in progress. I'll be submitting all three in 2010. I feel the time is now, and have never felt better about my creative powers. Great article.

I was able to get them when I was a member of the Science Fiction Book Club. I'd always join over to get their art books at a discount -they cost much more at bookstores. He did a cover for Ron L. Hubbard once -said the guy was nice, but Scientology was a load of crap.

Frazetta actually influenced the fantasy book I'll be submitting this upcoming year. His Death Dealer paintings inspired the creation of the character called the Reaper in my story.

They are. Their look is cleaner and more polished than Frazetta, who liked to leave a bit to the imgagination, I think. I have three books of his collected artwork. (including the one you showed) He's made a stamp on my imagination from childhood, reading Conan books with his art on the cover.

She's awesome. This is a slightly different look, seems reminicsent of Frank Frazetta, who put the stamp on the John Carter series, and fantasy art in general. Having seen Avatar, this makes me think of how the right director could make those stories cool again...

One wonders if there is an original name. My brother's name is LaChallenge, which I've never heard of since. My stepdad swore it was French, but he was crazy.

Most black people in America are completely disconnected from their heritage, and therefore names can come from anywhere, including one's insane imagination. Myself, I have the distinction of being named afer James Bond. Well, the actor who played him, anyway. My first name is Sean, after Sean Connery, because my mom was crazy about James Bond around that time. Lewis is my middle name.

I have absolutely no idea where the name Knight comes from, though I'm sure it can be traced to the family who owned my ancestors. I've never bothered to check.

Because to me, the name is of little import. Which goes to show it's all a matter of perspective...
