It certainly took a lot of golf balls to bare your soul about this game! Those of us who also bonded with our fathers or sons amid fields of green beneath skies of blue - dressed in garish circus garb - and "thwacking" everything from vinyl siding to "pains" of glass. Sadly, one day many yellow suns ago, I ruined the game you describe by posting a score in the 70s ... and ever since, I have missed all those accoutrements as I strive to match that score again. Time for me to head back to the second hand stores and back to persimmon drivers and back to the game you have so perfectly explained!

Excellent piece...excellent points...powerful summary. What would Obama's fans think if they knew that the way he won here in SC was to bring in approximatly 6,000 folks from outside SC to shake things up here, drive folks to the polls, disrupt events, etc. etc.

America became a "melting pot" where all races, creeds, religions come together as "Americans" - pointing with pride to their individual heritage, and working together on their joint heritage. Obama and his church are proof that racism is a one-way street - that it's OK for blacks to condemn America and use the race card on white folks and blame today's ills on angry white males. You noted that it is "time" (even PAST time) for America to elect a "black" president or a "woman" president. It's only "time" for such events when the color or gender of a person is not even a consideration. The "right" candidate will come along in due time - regardless of race or gender - who embraces the notion that this Republic and our way of government is best - and who NEVER endorses any individual or group which condemns another. This is a tragedy - but better learned now than this time next year.

Layla - just stumbled across your "Flagged Icon" situation ... and I am soooo glad I did! I was about to change my icon from the sailboat just left of here to Michelangelo's Renaissance sculpture David! Reminds me of that famous toast: Here's to Eve, the mother of us all, who wore a leaf (the greatest spot of all); Here's to Adam, the father of us all, (who was Johnny on the spot when the leaves began to fall)!" LOL

Maureen - I am a big fan of Alan Keyes, along with a handful of other true conservatives who have fallen by the wayside from the weight of good-old-boy establishment politics. It would have been most interesting to participate this November in a clash between right and left, conservative and liberal. As it is, we'll be deciding not to decide again.

Kirk...imagine walking out onto your deck with a steaming cup of java and then across the overwalk (so as not to disturb the dunes) and THIS is what you awake to almost every morning! I cannot IMAGINE why we moved away - although the insurance premiums on ocean front homes are now often more than the mortgage payments!

Chris...interesting input. But one would think that the Highest Hanging Fruit MUST be to REPLACE the internal combustion engine! All this talk and fret about increasing mileage and hybrids and the like - all just designed to "slow down" emissions that are naturally created when we heat things up. We need "alternative power" not just more efficient ways to "combust" stuff. Finally, when you plug in your hybrid and it recharges with electricity over night - isn't it just coming from your nearby coal-fired electric power plant?
