threre are so many lines I wished I had written, so many emotions you convey with words is a talent and a gift..."all the masks that hang in your closet" etc. My ultimate compliment is that you ask for help and criticism as to story, style and structure- too many just want to hear compliments on their thoughts.
For what is is worth, I think you can hone in even more, on what is a brilliant start and may want to just give glimpes into/from the past which is where you are going to start to tell story. I believe,.
Sometimes, we, who know where we are going, forget that the reader does not and we want to start expressing too much at first as we know the conclusions.

Loved it the first time, appreciate your re-working and passion.

Mandi- I should point everyone to your' Young and Naive" posted 1-27-06 and the haunting 'Chaos' posted by you on 2-1-06, fror everyone to know your prespective and to marvel at your insights and, in my opinion, brilliance as a communicator in this area .
I will leave others to comment on this, for, 'until. one has walked.... etc.' and as a writing, I do not think you were attempting anything other than to get some validation which in my opinion, you CERTAINLY DO NOT NEED..

Fab story- well written and constructed-
The Irony, lost,unfortunately, it appears, to me, by most, is that THERE ARE PEOPLE OBSESSED WITH GATHER POINTS AND HOW TO ACHIEVE THEM.

no addiction is sublime- by definition-
no addiction has ever lead to a happy or successful conclusion-
are we perverting this site or are its goals as false as an addicts search for that 'first' high.

Just a thought on this "AWARDS' Sunday.

Figures lie and liars figure, right?

A character in one of my stories recounts the following- We asked 10,000 people if they would vote for a women- 9,858 said- 'Yes"-
When asking the exact same group. how many of their friends would vote for a women, based upon percentages of their friends- the figure was 47.9%.

It is not the question; but, the intent of the question. Truth be told, few want to admit they are prejudiced or bigots; but, when allowed to use. as we were taught in Business 101- 'go to the higher power' ploy to GET or GIVE the TRUE Response, in this case.

Charles- Appreciate the constructive criticism- was written with the thought that there might be a story to be told and is sort of an overview/ a 'trailer', a 'tease' to see what others thought of the idea and the structure I was processing...still am debating w/myself as to its value.

you are able to transcend the 'horror' of abuse, lonliness, estrangement in a brilliant 'matter-of-fact' prose that does not hide or cloud the emotions of the events- which make this a perfect piece of writing and communicating.
