Rick, I think many of the previous comments have explained the alternatives to embryonic stem cell research well, (alternatives being adult stem cells, or stem cells from the placenta, etc.) I will not repeat what you've already heard. There is one thing I would like to focus on from your article. You said:

"a human being will not happen unless they are implanted, successfully attach to the wall of the uterus, and the fetus comes full term."

Is it your belief then that life does not begin until the child is outside of the womb? If so, how do you back up your belief? I know I'm veering slightly off topic here, but this is such a critical issue, if life begins at conception, then every 24 seconds in the United States an innocent child is being brutally murdered. If however, life does not begin until the child is outside the womb, as you seem to believe, then the government has no right to tell the woman what medical procedures she can and cannot have on her own body.
If you are truly open minded, please do a little research on this issue, visit the sites below, and perhaps look up some of your own.

As you are doing your research, you will most likely find as I have that the "pro-choice" position seems to be simply "We don't know" from the links above, it should be obvious when life begins, we shouldn't have to result to acting clueless on this extremely vital issue.

Yes, God will judge us all on our own actions, but He will also judge us on how we warned others. If I knew someone who was planning to murder another person, I wouldn't just stand back and let him do it, because God will judge him. I would either try to talk him out of it, or try to protect the person he is trying to kill. There are instances in which we should not interfere, but I don't believe abortion is one of them.

Renee, thank you some much for your advise! One of my major struggles with becoming a CNA is my worry of becoming attached to the patients, and then having them pass on. But on the other hand, what a privilege to be able to be with them in their final hours, maybe when they don't have any loved ones around to comfort them. It would be sad for me, but I'm sure they would appreciate having someone who cared about them be there.

Thanks, Jamie! I may decide to become an LPN or RN later on.

One of the things that led me to consider becoming a CNA was the ability to get a feel for the medical field without investing years into it.

I'm going to guess June 13th. I can't wait to see some pictures of the little fellas once they do come. I'm sure they'll be gorgeous.

Risa G - A surgical abortion cannot be done any earlier than six weeks. The baby's heart starts to beat at 18-21 days, which is right around the time that the mother finds out that she's pregnant. It may be small, but it's a living human being. What gives anyone but God the right to end it's short life?

Robiyah G - Be careful! You were once cells too. You still are, actually, only a lot more than you used to be.
If you ever have looked at fetal development pictures you would know that the cells that you are looking at is an actual human being, very small, and very vulnerable, but no less of a person than you are.

Also, I do have experience with abortion facilities in general, through many many friends, and they do try to push you to abort. It makes since though, because if they allowed you to see the ultrasound, or actually took the time to counsel the woman, they would lose business, which of course equals money, and they can't afford that.

I don't have much time to go into a lot of detail at the moment, so I will only comment on one point.
As someone who was a teenager just a few short years ago, I can tell you that if my mother gave me a talk about abstinence and then gave me a condom for my boyfriend to use "just in case" I would be pretty confused.
Honestly, I could go back and forth with you guys over this entire issue, and already have a few times. But my point is, if you teach these kids how to have sex, (be it "safe" or not) they are going to have sex. It's like leaving a starving man in your kitchen and saying, "don't touch anything. But if you do, here's a key to the pantry and a napkin to keep your shirt clean.
That being said, I do think that we opened Pandora's box when we started allowing Sex ED and other such things in schools. I honestly don't know how we can close it, short of putting every child in home school (like that's ever going to happen).

Cute! I love Charlie Brown. Did you happen to go by the house with all the inflatable stuff? I think it was near Oak and Truxtun... I read about it in the paper, and wanted to see it, but I got so busy that I never got the chance.

You fail to mention exactly what the woman is choosing. Should she choose abortion, she is choosing to pay someone to kill her own child (though many times, the mother is simply ignorant of the fact that she has a live human being growing inside of her).
As far as actual jail time, the abortionist is the one that should be punished. Pregnancy does strange things to our hormones, and many women are just doing what they think is the easy way out. The abortion "doctor" is the one that should be put in jail for doing an illegal abortion.
And I know the other argument, should abortion become illegal, and women no longer had access to it, they would resort to shoving coat hangers inside of them in an attempt to kill the baby themselves. I haven't seen any facts as far as this goes, (if you know of any, please let me know) but I would suspect that the number of women that died or had serious problems from attempting to do an abortion on themselves is less than the number of women that have died or had serious complications from a "safe and legal" abortion.
Also, 3,000 children die from abortion every day. I highly doubt that the number of women that would choose to shove a coat hanger inside of their body is anywhere near that number. Every life is valuable, and a woman that is desperate will do strange things. But abortion in any case does no help to a woman that is hurting. Let's join together to find ways to help women who are pregnant give life to their child, and find peace themselves. Fighting to ensure that a mother has the right to have her child killed helps no one.
McCain and Palin will be getting my vote tomorrow.

Also, one other thing, when a woman that has been raped has an abortion, she's getting rid of the evidence. If she went through with the pregnancy, she could press charges against the person who raped her, and through a paternity test, have undeniable proof to the fact.
By having an abortion, the woman is allowing the man that raped her to live freely, and possibly rape her, or someone else, again.

It's hard to imagine the pain that a young woman who was raped would go through, but adding to that pain by having an abortion will not help.
Some important things to consider:
The chances of a woman getting pregnant by rape are slim. Only about 200 pregnancies result from rape a year in the US
If a woman does get pregnant from rape, having an abortion is many times as or even more traumatic than the rape itself.
Also, 75 to 85 percent of women who became pregnant by rape chose against abortion. So according to the facts, only somewhere between 30-50 abortions a year are due to rape.
I knew a woman that came to the US illegally and was raped by the "coyote" that brought her over, she ended up pregnant, and was considering abortion. After talking it over, she decided on adoption instead, reasoning that she could never love a child that was conceived in such a violent act. She went through with her pregnancy, and gave birth to a girl. Once she saw the baby everything changed. She said that she thought that all she would see in her baby would be the man that raped her, but when she finally saw her, she didn't see the man that raped her, she saw herself.
So to answer your question, I support Sarah Palin's stand on abortion in the case of rape.

If Roe V. Wade is overturned, that will not make abortion illegal. Before Roe V. Wade, the states chose for themselves whether or not to allow abortion. And if Roe V. Wade is overturned, that choice will go back to the states.
I'm sure you know, (though most "pro-choice" people try to ignore) Norma McCorvey (A.K.A Jane Roe in Roe V. Wade) Has since changed her stance on abortion and is now very pro-life.
She wrote in her book, Won by Love,
"I was sitting in O.R.'s offices when I noticed a fetal development poster. The progression was so obvious, the eyes were so sweet. It hurt my heart, just looking at them. I ran outside and finally, it dawned on me. "Norma," I said to myself, "They're right." I had worked with pregnant women for years. I had been through three pregnancies and deliveries myself. I should have known. Yet something in that poster made me lose my breath. I kept seeing the picture of that tiny, 10-week-old embryo, and I said to myself, that's a baby! It's as if blinders just fell off my eyes and I suddenly understood the truth--that's a baby!"
I felt crushed under the truth of this realization. I had to face up to the awful reality. Abortion wasn't about "products of conception." It wasn't about "missed periods." It was about children being killed in their mother's wombs. All those years I was wrong. Signing that affidavit, I was wrong. Working in an abortion clinic, I was wrong. No more of this first trimester, second trimester, third trimester stuff. Abortion–at any point–was wrong. It was so clear. Painfully clear."

If you do a Google search for "Eight week unborn baby" you will come up with many websites that have facts and pictures of unborn babies at this age. Not the least of which is this site which shows 4D ultrasound pictures of unborn babies, the youngest being eight weeks. An image search with the same keywords brings up many more pictures, one of which is this one.
Now I would like to know, in light of the above evidence, do "pro-choice" people simply ignore the truth, or do you really condone killing one person based on another's "Choice"?

I didn't know that Palin's daughter was pregnant. However, I completely agree with you. She should be praised for making the choice to give life to her baby, rather than being put down for having sex out of wedlock. And regardless, children and families shouldn't be an issue in a presidential campaign.
