I read this the other night and at the time wanted to write something here that was way cool, but alas, in 1968 I was an undergraduate at the University of Utah, that bastion of radicalism, so I just walked away thinking that if I thought about it long enough, something would come to me.

Sheesh..... I made a comment.  Then it disappeared.  Then I wrote it again (with some editorializing).... then it REAPPEARED when I submitted the IMPROVED comment.

Gather is truly broken and is embarrassing me.

Let me explain something.  I was upstairs, in bed, reading this thread on the iPhone and I had to GET UP and come downstairs to my laptop just to comment back.  THAT's how funny I think your and Charles' comments are.....

I had to come back to the original scene of the crime.  Do you know how difficult Gather makes the journey?  I say that only to lend an air of exaltation to my pilgrimage.  Kind of a reverse Ressurection Sunday.

The trip was worth it, by the way.

You think?  It is the apartment downstairs from where I live which I use as my... ahem... STUDIO space now.  In a vew weeks, however, the son returns and I have to give it back to him.  I sanded the floors myself thirty years ago.  The carpet tiles were free samples.

Hah!  What was that movie where the counterfeiter used an old dryer with rocks in it or something to throw all his new printed money in to make the bills look used....... I have to look it up.

When my office was on a busier street, I would put things out on the curb and write a sign "FREE" on it and it would be gone by the end of the day.

I loved that system.

I am such a fastidious tosser.  I FREEZE things like chicken bones and lobster shells until garbage day so they don't, you know, create that smell for my neighbors or for the garbage men.  And I keep hoping that they (the garbagemen appreciate the fact that mine are consistently the smallest and lightest quantities on the block.  Even when I put construction debris (which is kind of against the rules) out, I cut everything to about 18" lengths and bundle them nicely and not too heavy, and dispose of them over a period of MONTHS.

Because I still consider garbage day a miracle of sorts, I do not want to piss off the garbage men.

(And what, exactly, is a porn problem?)

I think you are right about a comment being analogous to garbage.  I belong to another comment-driven site whose name I cannot divulge because it has a pretty high precentage of posts that are, shall we say, NSFW and you would think less of me, if that were possible..... anyway, the comments there are generally very hip and very funny (and probably come from people about half my age) and I just cut and paste them here on Gather.  I hate to see good comments go to waste.

I think cast-away home fitness machines are the funniest and pathos-filled articles to see in the trash.  Most of them have spent their life as a clothes rack.  This one, at least, had worn out from USE.
