The tree in Trafalgar Square is given as a gesture of thanks to the UK from the people of Norway, for assistance during the war - they have been making the gift since 1947!

My Christmas baking is known for the quantity of booze it contains!

The snow makes everything look wonderful - I'm just glad that this will be my final day at work!

I baked my Christmas cakes, Christmas puddings and Black Buns back at the end of November. I had 'fed' them with alcohol since then and marzipaned and iced the Christmas cakes last weekend.

I baked mincepies to serve warm to the carol singers, along with mulled wine and mulled apple juice. We've had two lots of singers around the neighbourhood already (a bonus, as we normally only get 2 for the whole season!) - but the biggest and best choir will be coming tonight - snow permitting.

It has a kind of 'rusty' colour, hence the slogan. And, of course, iron girders are strong...

It means: made from iron girders (some of the first ads featured a shipbuilder yard on the river Clyde in Glasgow!) 'fae' or 'frae' is Auld Scots/Lallans for 'from'... and girrrrders? Well, we roll our 'r's!

Irn Bru ads are truly amazing - and often controversial.... nuttin 'Mom n apple pie' about a drink 'Made in Scotland, fae girrrders', that's for sure!

It's snowing here in the UK. I was supposed to have been in Oz for Christmas but both my sister and my husband insisted that, after the NSW weather LAST year, it would be better to leave my trip until the weather cools down a bit! It's a curse having a fair skinned, celtic appearance and being unable to STAND high temperatures!

It's not a taste that I have ever liked. That sugar taste burns the back of my throat.
Now, if you want a really addictive drink (and it is used by many Scottish males as a hangover cure) try Barr's Irn Bru (the slogan is 'made in Scotland, fae girrders!)
