Actually, the scientists have just stated that we should expect a cooling trend for the next ten years. In the 1950s, these same scientists were stating that we were going into an ice age. I wasn't around the, but my father used to talk about it.

Regardless, taking care of our environment is a good idea. The cleaner, the better.

I got my stimulus check today and I don't feel STIMULATED~ by Karen W.

We were glad. We had to replace our pool filter. Yup, that check disappeared quickly!

My SIL, on the other hand, was pissed because they didn't qualify.

Well, if you read any of the Founding Fathers, you'll see that Ben Franklin believed all governments needed a peaceful revolution every 20 years to keep it from becoming corrupt. I think we are overdue. :)

This is one of the reasons why I don't vaccinate my child. One among many, but you can bet I've had to withstand a great deal of pressure. If I lived in another state, I wouldn't have the choice. I'd be moving.

Until the first vaccines, no one had ever seen a case of autism. I'm not saying they weren't there, just never discussed or seen by doctors. No studies or mentions of autism in medical journals of autism prior vaccines.

By the way, Thimerasol has been banned from use in dog vaccines for years. Yet the vaccines given to our children sometimes still contain it if it's an older batch. Often the doctor doesn't know if the vaccine vial comes from an older batch.

I agree 100%, Colonel, and have long stated that if we wanted to stem the tide of illegal immigrants, it would help if we took away the benefits they receive by coming here illegally. Encourage them to be legal, not illegal.

Ishbel, whether it is right or wrong, when we say "England" in the States, we are referring to the UK most of the time. It's not correct, but it is what it is. Yes, I know Scotland is a separate country, that you aren't too fond of the Sassenachs, and only in the past few years did you finally get your own government body, making it so you can actually govern yourself. I've visited Scotland and have a few friends there. It's a beautiful country.

If that is all you got out of the story, then you've allowed your prejudices and issues to cloud your reasoning.

I am listed as an independent, but we cannot lay the blame of our problems at the door of the Republicans. It would be putting our heads in the sand not to recognize that Democrats are just as corrupt and self-serving as Republicans. Where do you think all that campaign money comes from? It's the nature of the political beast. Honestly, how different would Al Gore have been? (Al Gore's family money comes from oil too.) Maybe we wouldn't be in a war, but who's to say. Perhaps there would have been more terrorist attacks on the US. Perhaps there wouldn't have been any. However, we are in Iraq now. Pulling out when things are just starting to stabilize would be suicidal. (My nephew is over there assigned to a Marine battalion. Apparently, the locals are starting to turn on Al Qaeda and the Iraqi army is growing stronger as the tribes and tribal leaders work together.)

Personally, I am more of a centrist. I know there is a great deal of pork in the government. Too much pork and corruption on both sides. How much deal making goes down? Take a look at one of bills some time and see how a vote was bought by the addition of a couple million dollars for some pet project of a senator that shouldn't really be funded by the government. With the way the numbers are in Congress now, we have to recognize that both sides have their agendas. Rarely are they what is best for We, the People.
