I agree with everything you wrote. You are a very, very smart shopper but there are those who would bite (so to speak) and buy it at the QVC price. Your savviness clearly saves you money. Can you see how ignorance can cost someone some change? So instead of going nuts, breathe a sigh of relief and consider yourself blessed! Thanks for sharing :-D

Did you do it online? On the phone? Through a travel agency? Surely there's got to be a way. Thank God you came into some money! I hope you can find something reasonable on hotwire, cheaptickets, priceline or something! Chin up. Or give yourself permission to cry, whine, moan or be a bitch. Or gobble up a snickers bar. It might make you feel better :-)

Joseph, excellent article, well organized, well-thought out. a 10+. I like that you lay out your bonafides and your political leanings. We are probably very, very closely aligned.

The fact that it was "taken years ago not with a digital camera and scanned with a so so scanner" gives it an even more natural and nostalgic sense about a faraway place and time. So apropos for a personal photo essay of a trip as opposed to one taken by a commercial photojournalist with bleeding edge technology.

I'm not a very good critic.

I read it all and read it fast because my mind gets engaged pretty quickly. There's a curiosity in me about things that makes me dive into the piece. The mosquito -- where is he? Who is Krissie -- oh, must be a relative... oh, the daughter! Skip angry. Hmmm... trouble in the marriage?

My mind connects the dots and before I know it the story has unfolded before me. All throughout the story I sensed the suspense and the tension. That kept me reading. There's much to infer from the short story but I think it can stand as is. I like to speculate.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I only wish I could stay with something long enough to finish a story!
