Thanks. As stated above, anal retentive it is....though I have to say, I did finally get disgusted and backed off trying to actually look at each one. Makes me understand all over again the importance of creating an interesting title--with so much flowing through here daily, it is very easy to ignore someone's quality piece.

My son went to see it; the line of ticketholders was out the the theater door and halfway around the building...but worth the wait and extra expense, according to him.

As long as it's the Multi-Cat version of scoopable litter, either Arm & Hammer or Tidy Cat are fine--but my cats have definite preferences. One cat doesn't like the A & H and will pee on my son's bed if her world is not exactly right, so these days I go with Tidy Cat only....the other two could care less which brand.

What kind of problems could cockroaches have? Is it something we could exploit as a new way to get them to in-breed themselves out of existence?

Living in a state where cockroaches are a neverending problem, I DREAM of an organic way to eradicate the species. Still haven't figured out what purpose they serve in the food chain.

Word from a member of my family (displaced Southerner who lives in Wichita and 'hears things' on the legal grapevine) is that he does something with chickens....or at least, that's the unverified rumor.

There is actually a movement within Christianity to follow only the Gospels--the 'red letter Christian' or 'follower of Christ'.

The guy who wrote 'The Great Stay At Home Wives Conspiracy' also wrote a book about it and produced a video....one of the best passages in the book and in the demo video that came with it is where he goes to a GLBT convention and erects a confessional...and apologizes to all who come in for what 'Christians' have done to them. He approaches the subject with gentleness and humor and I was SO impressed with the whole thing. I would love to see the entire video; alas, it is only for sale to church groups, not individuals.

I'll comment back later tonight after I get home and look up the man's name.

I am down to 34 unread emails with a total of 5 pages saved....until tomorrow, of course.

I finally got to the point that I wasn't going to keep anything except personal messages....a much more reasonable criteria than 'oohh this looks interesting' and 'damn! I meant to read that last year and I don't have time now either!' Yeppers. Anal retentive it is.

Tough. Thanks for the eye-opening piece....it touches home because my son flunked out his first semester and lost his scholarship and we can't afford for him to start over anywhere else. He is working but just sort of marking time until....what? If something happened to me, this would be his future. I don't see anyone in my family taking him in.

Scary stuff.

I knew about the use of placental material in cosmetics (Hask was producing hair serums using placental material back in the 80s) but not fetal cells.

Sigh. I object to the idea that I might inadvertently be putting someone's dead baby on my face. Glad the company was as open about this as they were, despite the moral objections. At least I will know to avoid purchasing their products.

That having been said, 'harvesting' material that would otherwise be discarded is an old practice, no matter its source. It's called recycling. At the same time, there is something just a little too ghoulish about recycling human tissue for anything other than a valid medical purpose. Anti-aging skin treatments is not, and never will be, a valid medical treatment. Hell, Michael J. Fox's foundation for Parkinson's research is looking a whole lot more moral now, isn't it--to recycle discarded cells (assuming their origin would be the same--a fetus unable to survive to term) in order to relieve suffering seems a lot more justifiable than for purely cosmetic purposes. But to improve someone's looks? How can that possibly be a moral and ethical use of discarded biomaterial?

I'm not a pro-lifer--I'm all about women legally owning their own bodies and the right to make their own choices about their bodies--but I am very squeamish. Yech.
