Being the daughter of an author, I understand that the hardest part of the journey is getting the word out so that people will start reading the book. Patry, glad to hear that your working on another novel. Your first one was wonderful. Your dream life was hard-earned I'm sure and well-deserved. One day, I'd love to hear all about your book tour. I am nearing the finish line of my edits and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The book is turning out to be even more than I ever imagined it could be and like you I love the priviledge of writing. But I can't wait for school to start so I don't feel awful for ignoring my kids while I wile away at the computer. Gotta go. Looking forward to your next release. Queen, my title states exactly what occurred on Wednesday without prejudice. If you had been able to step back and truly read the facts in my article, you would have learned that their is truly no "life-threatening" medical emergency in this day and time that would ever make this procedure necessary. Is it crueler to remove the child put it in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and give he or she the chance to fight for life or it is crueler to pull them out, puncture the base of their skull and suck out their brains? As a woman and as a mother, I simply cannot support trading my life for the life of another without giving that person at least a chance at life. Hasn't anyone heard of adoption? And Queen before you leave the building, just one more thing to consider. Did you know that in 1972, the year before Roe vs. Wade became the law of the land, the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia reported that 39 women died from illegal abortions in the United States? In that same year and that same report, they state that 24 women died from legal abortions obtained in the United States. I think that you need to research the facts a little better and realize that people such as myself are not the ones who have sold you down the river on a raft of lies leaving you both physically and emotionally traumatized by past decisions you may have chosen to make.

My book is entitled, "The Bunko Babes" and it is now slated for release on August 20, 2007. It is a novel about eight women who play Bunko once a week and the friendships that they build as they walk through life's struggles. It's got the humor and fun of a moral "Sex in the City" with the depth and heartache of "Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood". I'll let everybody know for sure when it will be available as I know more. Thanks for the support.

As one who was solicited by many I truly appreciate your article. I had no idea of the lengths to which this had gone to but I was getting a little concerned when I received four and five reminders from the same e-mail address. As one of the lucky soon to be published first time authors, I wanted more than anything to have time to read and comment on every single entrant and honestly that was my intention. But with a five and a six year old, continued last minute edits, & yada, yada, yada, I just couldn't do it. I managed only to read yours and two others and I feel awful about the other people who so kindly requested my assistance. But like you said, I didn't just want to read and throw something out there. I really wanted to give something of value in return. Thanks for the article.

Sophie, as a shopaholic myself and a woman who never goes anywhere without her Ipod, palm pilot, cell phone, my newest, trendiest purse purchase, and the latest crime novel or chick lit book, I absolutely adore your books. I have yet to jump into this latest for the small reason it is only available in the abridged version on itunes which just happens to be the easiest way for me to "read" right now but I plan on heading to Borders asap to get my Becky fix sometime this week.

Your characters are lovable, charming, and so much fun. I thoroughly enjoy each and every trip they take me on and look forward to the next one with great anticipation. Thanks for giving us the gift of Becky Bloomwood.

I too am a novelist though not on the same level as you. My first book "The Bunko Babes" was slated for release in less than a month but due to the editing process and the slow wheels of publishing it's been pushed to August 2007. What as an author have you found to be the most frustrating part of the publishing process? The most rewarding part?

Eric and others, your support and words of kindness continues to surprise and ncourage me. Thanks for taking the time to read my article and then to take the extra step to comment. Keeping ya'll in the loop, I found out last night that the wheels of the publishing machine have hit a few bumps and my book may have to be bumped to a August release date. Nothing's for sure yet but as one newbie to other, either newbies or those still fighting to find a foothold on the publishing ladder, I wanted to give you just a hint of the struggles of the process. But labor is always a painful process (even with an epidural) and that's the part that I'm firmly entrenched in at this moment. I'll let you know more when I know more. How's that sound?

Wow! Comments and positive ones to boot! You guys are too kind. I must admit to feeling a little nervous as I was about to push the publish button and send the article out into the world wide web. Your comments took away that apprehension and now another bridge has been crossed. Thanks immensely. This journey just becomes more and more exciting with each passing day.

As to John C.'s comments, I too had a completed first novel that I had gone so far as to attend a conference in NYC where I shopped it to actual huge, major, publishing houses and it was favorably received by one but after weeks of waiting on pins and needles it was decided that it just wasn't what they were looking for at this time. Then it was rejection after rejection. That book happened to be a mystery/family drama and I was shopping it to the ABA market. But all my contacts were in the CBA and I just didn't happen to want to go down that road at that particular time in my life.

The truth is "The Bunko Babes" originally was supposed to be a book about suburban women who were running a huge drug business under the guise of the normalacy of their lives of PTA meetings, Mommy and Me play groups and nights of Bunko but God had other plans and as I started to write it turned into a first person quirky, yet strangely moving story of eight women who start a weekly Bunko group and how they come together in their times of need as life deals them its wonderful mixture of full houses, straight flushes and more often than not hands with nothing left to do but fold or bluff your way through.

I'm digressing and I apologize. I need to get ready for church but let's suffice it to say that I would love to read your first chapter and I would encourage you to send it in to any contest that is legitimate.
