I don't know if you saw but in the paper this Sunday there was a piece on lies and truths on the health care bill...It said the "death panels" that Palin talked about = liar, liar pants on fire!

As for the other countries, I do know that Americans have it pretty good, after seeing South Africa and Zimbabwe I really understood that. My issue is not so much with the country but with it's citizens. I am pretty sure that of all the places I've been, Americans are given the most opportunities and take the least advantage of said opportunities.

Ah, yes, the RSVP, my Great Aunt Dee is the queen off manners and I always have to ask myself WWADD. My dad always told me to treat others the way I wanted to be treated. I find that helpful, it lets you know how someone wants you to treat them (even if it's poorly) and it makes you think about what you would want someone to do for you.

#2 Ninja Kitteh, I am all about dissenters so no worries.

I think, my frustration and anger comes more from how I am treated for choosing to educate myself. Ever since grade school, I choose to read more difficult books, I had manners even in the lunch room and I was treated poorly because of it. I didn't feel better then thou until I was told I was, it was never MY intention to be that way...but well, that's where I've been placed by others, so fine, I'll accept that. They choose to believe I am a stuck up, elitist bitch and I've decided to accept that role.

As far as trying to convince others of a different path? I've worked in schools, day cares and taught reading and writing. The day care I worked at doubled as an after school program and I talked with those kids about choosing education, and got them reading. I've been the lead on protests in both my high school and college and have done my best to get people that I know to at least think about what they can do to improve themselves, their families, their communities...etc.

Unfortunately, the amount of contempt that I dealt with even with working in the after school program was enough to take the wind out of my sails. I couldn't understand why parent's and fellow teachers were upset that I was encouraging reading...but they saw it as pushing their kids to be "book worms" and "nerds" when they were supposed to be athletes. Having discussions about their thoughts made them "full of themselves" and caused them to question things at home. I was asked by the lead teacher to no longer have discussions with these young teens about how they felt about the world around them and their situations. Shortly after that I returned to culinary school and went on with my chef life. I've helped many of my Hispanic workers learn to speak English and begin to read it as well. I'm not sure what else I should be doing and I would like to do more, I am just feeling incredibly bitter as of late. There is so much resistance and so little awareness that I feel like Sisyphus just contemplating how to start. I don't quite fit in with my generation and never have...I don't think we speak the same language.

My grandmother has never once shaken a bible, and certainly doesn't make a spectacle of herself. She taught me how to be the unapologetic, well read, intelligent woman I am today. The people of her generation also lived through the depression, so perhaps they piss and moan because no one listened when the warned of seeing the same things happen again and again. If only people would actually learn from past mistakes, if they got to experience the highs and the lows why wouldn't they bitch about having to deal with the lows again, especially when it could of been avoided and during their so called "golden" years.

I was in bed last night (well early this morning), and feeling too agitated to sleep. I was composing in my head, and had to get up and write. It pains me to be part of a generation that just doesn't care, not only about their own country but the world. Protesting has become a thing of the past and should be brought back with a vengeance.
As far as education goes, we are in a sorry state, and all I can come up with is to home school my children, just as long as my husband (ex-nuclear engineer in the Navy) deals with the math and science.
