Thanks! Yes, it is...and there's no end of topics, too.
Folks here have asked me for articles and right now the most I really have time for is to provide a link to the already-published ones.
I have been writing history and cultural articles for newspapers and magazines since I left high school, and all through my adult life, and love doing it...(ps high school was a LONG time ago)

I've always been a "public historian" rather than head for academia, and believe wholeheartedly in providing solid research in a public-friendly and even entertaining forum.

I consistently see happy, smiling people gathered around that statue. Taking pictures, looking excited.

Eliz. Montgomery herself was known to be a caring, progressive, socially-conscious, active citizen. Not a bad person to honor...

Two big points in the statue's favor, I'd say.

And, btw, the dedication ceremony was FUN. People really needed to lighten up about this one.

Yes. And they're breaking the law doing it too. There are always some people in town who want the pedestrian mall turned back into a regular street. Nice, huh? Many of us moved here BECAUSE Salem is a walking town. Those speed demons and scofflaws endanger and annoy everyone. Tragedy is inevitable one of these days -- if indeed it hasn't already occurred.

Essex should remain pedestrian-friendly. Most people asked about it WANT THIS.

Perhaps we could add a bike lane. That would help in that department, I think.

The frontage proximity of stores to street is prohibitive for turning it back into a street for vehicles. We should be encouraging people to DRIVE LESS, anyway. Yikes.
