How about walking everywhere? That would get you outside! You could walk to restaurants, and cultural centers, and Whole Foods. Apartment living is actually quite green. I can't, however, imagine taking my (non-green) steaks in the elevator down to the common grill on the bottom floor.

I've always had 9th grade in my head as an appropriate age for a kid to get his own phone. I'm a little shocked that this issue is coming up already in our house.

Thanks Pam! It does have me trying things (ie yoga) that I probably would not have otherwise. It's easy to take risk on doing a Cobra pose in the safety of your living room.

Tonight is the annual beach picnic -- about six families gather in late afternoon on a favorite beach, haul out grills, splash in the water with the little ones. The light is amazing. This is one of my favorite nights of the year.

I love to hear the support for the family vacation that leans toward tradition. I do feel that the kids are developing a real connection to the place that I think will be meaningful for a lifetime.

It's funny because I think most people assume that it's going to be great fun to be home alone, but that's not my experience. But at least I'm leaving for the airport to rejoin my family in just a few minutes!

The food that was had was consistently good and surprisingly adult oriented in both parks and on the boat. I put on five pounds in a week!!! Argh.
