This is more or less what I envisioned. Bravo! Sed doesn't mean to be an overbearing jerk, but we find that out.

Morning Wisdom. I figured you'd have a lot to say on this topic. Smile

Jamie, I get what you're saying. And I would never throw rotten fruit at you. Lime wedges? Well maybe. smile.

The music business is dealing with much the same thing. Indie labels, itunes and shareware all vie for the same dollars which used to buy CDs. There is a balance to be struck.

And while there is a lot of 'trash' out on the market the POD Indies aren't the only ones putting it out. If you gave me Harlequin books, chances are good I wouldn't read them. Now, granted things may have changed, I never found one that I liked. Some were marginal, but the formula, cookie cutter, type romance isn't what I want to read.

And no, not everyone can write them. I may not like the company, but what's happening with their authors is egregious. All of that hard work, holding to rules and dead lines. Harlequin needs to fix this and quickly.

My eye time and pocket money is held for stuff I like to read. Most of that will be found with a Trade press. You must admit some of the Indie stuff is very, very good.

I suspect epub is bringing in new readers. People who normally fuss with a book, but love having it on their lap top or iPhone.

Sherrie you make a very good point about the computer craze making it easier.
When I started submitting I had to, either go to the library and borrow the ginormous Agent and Publishers book, or fork out mega bucks to have one at home. The first time I saw that thing I thought my head would split. Send an email submission? Oh, no. Print out the entire thing and mail it off to the unknown w/return postage if you wanted the ms back. There were a few, very progressive, houses that let you send a MSWord floppy disk.

It certainly weeded out the serious from the wannbes. Spotting the wolves wasn't anywhere as easy as it is now. I felt like a guppy in a shark tank. Still do sometimes.

Not going to a new page w/a link is one of my pet peeves too. Thanks for bringing it up Rand.

This whole Harlequin thing is such a mess. I find it hard to believe they thought they could slide this one in and not get called on it. Der! It will be interesting to see how this mess plays out. I feel bad for the authors.

Beaker decorated for the holiday season! The scientist isn't around is he? That could be bad, for you that is.

I did my mad scientist thing and made flubber, gooze and a silly putty type thing for PP. Chemical reactions are SOOO kewl. White glue mixed with borax and liquid starch does amazing things. Just sayin'. DS and his friend are playing with it too. Hard to say who's having more fun. hehe

Jamie, my tummy is jealous of yours. Seasame chicken, yummmmy!

Glad to hear you're not too sick Sia. How's Jake doing with his creeping crud?

Jamie, I remember that whole smoking brouhaha too. One commenter said something like you were setting a bad example. For who? Cuz we all know 10 year olds read paranormal romance. Yeah.. still one of my most favorite reads. I had a horse in that race, so commenting in a negative manner was a no-no for me.

In FC1 a couple of women wanted to know why my heroine didn't just get a divorce and leave her husband. Never mind it was 1876 and divorce was taboo and rarely granted least of all for a woman. Patrick came to my rescue and gave them a history lesson. I was cheering Patrick M. vigorously.

The inaccuracies in Elizabeth I tugged at me, but didn't cause enough distress for me to turn it off. I wouldn't rent it again, nor do I see myself suggesting it because of the fact twisting. Kind of a mixed bag there.

I think if an author are going to use a period as a background, then it's up to them to figure out what is and isn't relevant for that period.

I love history, always have and nothing makes me want to throw a book across the room more than blatant disregard for facts.

Elizabeth Lowell has never been forgiven by me for using the Winchester '76 rifle in 1873. Pulled me straight out of the story and bugged me completely for the rest of the story.

When I wrote my historical I researched every nuance... and then some cuz I'd get sucked done the history hole. grin Guns, hats, boots, news, banking, camping equipment and whether or not there was paint for the outside of a house. There was, but I chose white wash for effect. The list goes on, but I don't want to bore you. grin

The reader may never notice the accuracy, but I know it's right and that's important to me. Don't want to worry about whether or not there was polyester cloth in 1963? Write in a period you know, or go for a Fantasy. Just me of course.

Why am I up? The young men of the house, plus a couple, commandeered my computer and I just got them off.

Wants to trade weather with Pat S. for a few days. It's still not freezing cold, which is good. Mid-forties, over cast, spittin' rain with intermittent gusts of wind. That sums up November in the Pacific Northwest.
