The freedom to speak does in fact come from within. The freedom to speak without getting killed or locked up comes from others who are willing to protect you. Freedom is a worthless value if you are dead or locked up.

Freedom is something that the Iraqi people have never had under Saddam, and there are many powers in Iraq today that do not want them to have that freedom now. I am proud of my fellow soldiers that sacrifice to ensure that those things that we cherish here in the US is given a chance to grow elsewhere.

The unrest stems from the fact that Serbia contains two ethnic cultures (the Albanians and the Serbs) that cannot seem to get along. The Albanians want to breakaway and form their own country, the Serbs will not let them. Both sides have committed horrific acts that include "ethnic cleansing" in their respective areas.

Since the customers were also complaining, I think it probably had little to do with internal office racism.

IMHO, women smell good without all that perfume. I think that it is a marketing ploy.

On another thought, make sure you get involved in the family support group in your husbands unit. Civilians have no equivalent. It is a great resource!

I switched from Air Force to Army. Some army posts are better than others. Though they have reduced PCS moves, expect to see both.

The military still has one of the best retirement systems, but we also have the potential of being deployed to fight wars (unless the Dems win out and they succeed in their isolationist policies).

Good luck on your decision and possible transition. Remember, we say "Hooah", the Marines say "Oorah."

I have to join the BOO-birds. I like the idea of turning off and on commenting. The idea of deleting comments .... BADDDDD. If someone wants to throw up a radical idea, everyone should be able to read both sides of the issue.

I also am still waiting for my most wanted feature change which is all ratings have to be attached to a member. The trolls usually attack articles by rating them low, not by leaving bad comments. Maybe we should be able to delete bad ratings also (just kidding.... BADDDD idea ... But it fits the same logic as being able to delete comments).

Sensationalizing the statistics:

The Washington Post figures that "at least 20,000 private security guards operate in Iraq," while noting that the International Contractors Association has said that the number "could be as high as 50,000." The New York Times splits the difference, calling it at "about 30,000" while The Los Angeles Times goes for the low end of the Times / Post numbers, calling it at "at least 20,000."

Most of these "mercenaries" are ex-military, especially special forces.

It is unfortunate that there is a reliance on these private security firms though.

The mud wrestling reference unfortunately reminds me of the Guard unit that got in trouble for having a mud wrestling event with girls when they were redeployed. That did not turn out so well, but it provided the internet some interesting pics.

I think that it is crazy that any country, including our own, has WMDs.

I do not like our military acting as the world's policeman, but I also hate to think that we have to have local cops in my hometown. Bad people exist and good people need to step up and stop them. In hindsight, Bush could have done alot of things better. Lets just hope that the good fight prevails!
