I resolved 20 years ago to never make another New Year's Resolution -- and so far I have stuck with it. I guess I know that if I need to change my behavior or attitude, there is no time like the present (whenever that may be).

That doesn't mean, of course, that I stick to any change I decide to make at any time. Making real changes is hard work and I'm as lazy as the next guy.

Like you (and Chris), I am interested in the life experiences that shaped the person I am today. Writing my memoirs has helped that process.

I'm glad I found this delightful photo essay. I thought I had it bad living on a corner. I better stop complaining and get out there and shovel that measly 2 inches we had yesterday.

You can hardly blame the Aussies Ed. It is so hot at Christmas, it must be hard to get in the spirit. I had my memories and many established traditions to keep me focused.

And I learned from taking canned pumpkin through customs that the quarantine line is always the shortest one. So now I would never travel overseas without taking food along and declaring it! And they never searched my bags. I guess they thought if I was honest enough to declare canned pumpkin, I wasn't likely to be carrying any contraband.

Thanks so much Sonia. Even though my son is now 26, he was visibly disappointed then he arrived this year and my house wasn't the usual Christmas wonderland.

I was really disappointed that I didn't get many decorations up this year. I will plan better next year. I need to spend the winter making merchandise so I won't be so busy next November and December.

Christmas is more than just a day. It is a state of mind. You can celebrate it on any day.

I am so glad he decided to see a doctor. Men can be so hard-headed. If he has a real injury, he needs to find out about it as soon as possible.

I'm so sorry Julie. I hope he is alright. Guilt is a funny thing. When we get used to blaming ourselves for things as children, it is hard to overcome, even with the reason and wisdom we gain as adults. I'm glad that your Gather friends can help keep your mind occupied. Just make sure your husband gets checked out by a doctor. Injuries are not always obvious immediately after an accident.

I can't get over the tremendous ego of all of these people in the public eye who think it will never catch up with them. Haven't enough ex lovers (and current lovers) come forward to make them think twice? Athletes don't need to be smart to succeed, but politicians should be smarter than that.

Wilhelmine, you are an inspiration to all of us. Keep up the good work.

I understand only too well your story about the nursing home. My mother was not so fortunate when she had a stroke. She remains totally paralyzed on the left side. She lives in a nursing home and I have learned a great deal about compassion while visiting her. So many of the residents have been abandoned by their families. Just the smallest amount of attention can make their day.

I certainly hope that whatever plan the government comes up with prevents insurance companies from cutting unhealthy people from coverage. That's the whole point of insurance.

I have a Blue Cross individual plan that costs a fortune and has very poor coverage. I doubt that the government will come up with anything in time to help me. I can't wait to turn 65 so I can get Medicare
