Just finished listening to classics (via guttenberg) The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde; Mansfield Park and Persuasion -- Jane Austen. Will be returning to the 20th/21st Century (and printed word) with Richard Russo's Straight Man before tackling my textbooks

Good luck with your project. I've never been able to master anything other than casting on and off and the basic knit stitch. Not especially fancy, but I can make a warm scarf or afghan at least

My mother in a faux -hawk and tattoos would definitely concern me, because it's totally not her. But it works for some people. What someone does with their own body is not for me to admire or not. It's just a form of self expression.

Interesting thoughts. Asking for help can sometimes be equated with relinquishing control. For many people control of their own lives (or the illusion of that control) is hard to get in the first place. Not accepting help from others is not anything personal against other people, I don't think. It's just an attempt to hold on to that.
