Chris,

While I don't agree with Keith that "the global warming movement is a political attack on the free world," I think that this fight is wasting our time since we cannot come to a consensus. Instead, I think it is better to focus on steps that we can take on items that are much less contested since they will also help curb climate change.

Here's a link from Gallup. A December 6, 2006 announcement states: "A majority of Americans say the terms conservative and moderate apply to them personally, while 34% say the term liberal applies to them, and 28% say the term progressive applies. No more than 1 in 10 Americans say the terms libertarian or populist applies."

Let me quote Mickey: "Why are liberals so afraid of FOX news? There are 300 million people in the US. Fox has a viewer ship of 3 million. According to liberals only conservatives view FOX. So why is there so much fear?"

Further, ABC, CBS, and NBC all dwarf the cable networks, including FNC. Cable news is big money, but it is still small potatoes in terms of TV and radio news consumption.

Further concering your other question -- "Why are liberals so afraid of FOX news?" -- it is the fact that the network calls what it broadcasts as news. That's my biggest beef with it; I agree with Mitch that, "Fox is a Op/Ed organization, news is a sideline." Other news organizations do have their own biases -- which typically are liberal, but they do not revel in them. They do have their commentators, but outside of cable news (think of Lou Dobbs at CNN and Tucker Carlson, Chris Matthews, & Keith Olbermann at MSNBC), they rarely gain much clout on the editorial policy of the organization.

"Every news media outlet w/ the exception of C-SPANN has a bias." Supposedly even The Weather Channel is liberal. LOL! Seeing that made my eon.

"This is the result of the viewer ship. Viewers will only read news that conforms to their core belief system." Actually, in an American politics course I took in the fall of 2003 we learned that, according to polls, most Americans consider themselves as conservatives. Therefore, why isn't the F-word Network more popular?

I hereby denounce the news media -- all of it -- in its current state.

Also, while it is hard to ascertain a person by their action on Gather, I consider myself a moderate. Further, it is hard not to bash FNC when considering all of its antics (this is a link to general news about FNC at an influential TV news news blog -- yes, I wrote "news" twice; you'll see plenty of posts about Faux antics).

BBC reports this week that a survey finds that many young British Muslims are more political and radical than their elders. Since older people have more exposure to "corporate practice" than younger ones, it seems strange as those who have more experience with such practice seem more liberal than those who have less.

You want some incorrect reporting on the F-word Network? That's easy.

What about when Faux & Friends was advertising that Insight Magazine story that Barack Obama attended a madrassa? After this debacle, Faux jefe John Moody had to e-mail staffers that: "For the record: seeing an item on a website does not mean it is right. Nor does it mean it is ready for air on FNC. The urgent queue is our way of communicating information that is air-worthy. Please adhere to this."

Oh, that's not biased; it is irresponsible. Sorry...

While I agree with Kathryn that most media organizations are liberal; they don't act as irresponsibly as Faux.

Further, I do watch some Faux News. In fact, I probably watch it more than CNN and MSNBC. I rarely watch CNBC or get news from the broadcast networks. However, I do closely follow various media news sites -- both liberal and conservative.

I am not saying that I don't think that sharing spiritual experiences on-line is taboo; it just seems weird sharing personal, sacred things with complete strangers. If I get to know someone a little -- via e-mail, perhaps -- then that is different.

Wow! What discussion. It is interesting to note that statistics divorced from reality are worthless. Effort alone does not guarantee success, but it is still essential unless you're born rich. Lloyd, while paying teachers more will not solve everything, it'll help; further, we need to make education more sexy to society.

Yes, I have received such feedback. However, if you act nicely and don't fuel such behavior, it subsides in your realm. At least that is how it works for me.
