Very interesting. I routinely plug for proper omega-3's also, which can be found in walnuts, flax seeds, and some other sources. I once heard a young psychiatrist say he felt they are important because fatty acids are necessary for proper cell-wall performance.

Rapes of local women have also been a terrible issue. The U.S. is stuck trying to militarily occupy places after the game has changed to trade. Fixing this requires changing the corporations who have purchased the U.S. government. So many hoped Obama would carry through. It has become clear he will not, so the change will happen later. U.S. behavior cannot go on this way indefinitely. What helps is to procott businesses that do not promote or benefit from military occupation. We have passed the point where congresspersons have incentive to listen to ordinary people. Their donors have to feel the effects of change. Help small businesses and small farmers.

He was a very interesting person, not afraid to speak his truths to whomever.

One should be careful with too much C however. It can crystalize in your urinary tract if you don't drink enough fluid and watch the dose.

I used to think the only side effect would be diarrhea, but that is not so. I happened to meet a person who had dealt with the urinary issue.

You also have to be careful about chewable C as it may make your mouth too acidic, which can cause sores and teeth damage.

All of this is individual-specific. You may not have the issues some do, but you should be aware of the possibilities, as with any substance not taken as a whole food.

If Moody's is not straightforward in its analysis of the situation in Greece, its business life will be over as it will have no credibility.

The only thing that keeps the U.S. dollar from tanking is that other governments are as dysfunctional as ours, and in many of the other countries, the people do not work as hard as our people. We are already an offshore destination for German companies because there are micro-cultures in the U.S. where people really like to think and work, and there are great flex huge buildings all set up to do what they want to do.

I hear a German driver's license costs so much that plenty of unlicensed people just take a risk and drive anyway. Sounds like home.

The Chinese will soon be offshoring here as well as the Germans.

Our government is crony-addicted and colludes in all sorts of subsidies and confiscations in restraint of trade and harm to little people un-cronied enough to defend themselves.

But when government doesn't totally bankrupt the little guy (collateral damage) she lives to try again and may have some idea of how to do work-arounds of legislation enacted to make the rich richer.

Ah, if only Will Rogers and Mark Twain would reincarnate for a time. We don't have enough court jesters.

We need to address the expensive issues of violence and corruption engendered by Prohibition.

Breeding, growing, and medical research are proceeding in other countries.

U.S. farmers and researchers are at a disadvantage, as off-shore sources provide ingredients for U.S. products and benefit from attitudes that are more respectful of science and nature than we have had here in a long time.

As Janine Benyus explained in a TED talk concerning manufacturing, Heat, Beat, and Treat is one way to make things.

When nature can build very durable self-maintaining things in ways that use far less energy-intensive ways, those who refuse to use new ways will be left behind.

We need to recover from treating humans with Heat, Beat, and Treat, if we want to start cleaning up after the big violent, energy-spewing party.

The permaculture circles I run in make me quite hopeful.

Seeing that Janine Benyus has gotten two TED talks lets me know that more efficient ways of doing things are on the horizon. Who would want to take the risk of Heat, Beat, and Treat ways of constructing things when far more efficient ways are available, mimicing how Nature does things.

I think I will do a brief posting about that. Thanks for the thread.

I don't think sharing comes naturally to humans. I think it's a pretty complicated thing to learn. There is freedom and health from sharing that has to be learned by experience before its value can be felt in the heart and the bones.

Once people have been rewarded for the opposite, perhaps it becomes a habit, until or unless a different reward system can seem possible to the acquisitive person.

I think Oregon is becoming jaded enough that this would be very difficult to carry off here, if it hit the news.

A FOIA request for the notes of Cheney's meeting with oiligarchs turned up before or near the invasion showing an Iraq carved up the way you seen cows carved on a meat diagram in the Joy of Cooking, with the major oilies each getting a hunk. I saw this on a power point from a guy who works under contract with Oregon's department of something, energy I think.

This consultant was extremely worried about what he called consolidation in the energy industry.

He was also worried by plans from FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) to cite Liquified Natural Gas (LNG ) wherever they chose without regard for danger and for gas inventory down the line more than a few years.

He said the countries that could export LNG would not choose to by the time an import facility was built because they would need the gas for their own populations. Shipping it in or even just planning to was an unbelievable waste, and there is implacable resistance in Oregon.

Our governor finally had to advocate for public opinion on this.

The senior federal elites are so busy junketing and hanging out with each other that they don't even know what is going on in the grass roots.

I can't get over that Suntech has said they are sold out, on Renewable Energy World. I had to go back and listen twice to the podcast.

Western leaders are working hard to keep their positions by kowtowing to 'garchs of various kinds. They are going to be caught behind what people are doing.

Meanwhile, some of the 2/3rd world, where they saw what's coming, are going to bust butt to reduce pollution loads.

Fed-up brainy people from the U.S. are offshore in some of these places because it's exciting and they feel more appreciated and more able to do new things without interference from sclerotic industries in the West.

Brazil and China may lead the 2/3rd world on this, but other countries are getting it as well. China likes to come in on time and under budget on its short- and long-term plans.

Imagine that.

The U.S. government listens to Big 'garchs, Big Labor, and Big Governments, domestic and foreign, before listening to little people.

It still matters, however, what little people do, not much within the Beltway, but outside it. Batten down the hatches, we are going to see change, at a new pace. I truly don't believe the burrowed-in, grandfathered monopoly industries understand the capacity of ordinary people to change under stress.

Time magazine ran an article on composting toilets in the most recent issue. I thought this phenomenon was a Portland thing. The articles let me know it is a much bigger national trend than I thought.

The 'garchs won't be able to sell us much nitrogen and phosphorus if we stop flushing these substances into our rivers. In the meantime, water-treatment gurus who are paying attention are going to start making money from harvested struvite fertilizer (high phosphorus, high magesium), not only in the states and Canada, but in China as well. The pilot project has gotten a lot of attention.

Cheney could move to Dubai before anybody can arraign him. I hear there are some interesting properties there. I doubt we would be able to extradite him from Dubai.

What is hopeful to me is that scientists like Richard Feynman are willing to absolutely challenge government attempts at downplaying science, by dropping an o-ring in a glass of ice water, on camera. I think this scientific courage is cowed right now, except for the few who have persisted with the information on endocrine disruptors. It is no longer possible to jam searches and to prevent their information from getting out. Thanks for posting.

In reply to David regarding the EPA, it seems to be the usual of the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, for one of its issues. Some are aware that spraying herbicides in a marine environment would be horrific and probably illegal in some fine print somewhere, while others are convening meetings far from the affected people, and putting company-initiated testimony straight as a justification for spending tax dollars on the spraying.

The companies can no longer jam searches with their stuff to prevent people from finding out about research on estrogenic compounds or on surfactants.

The issues of burrowed-in and revolving doors are discussed on truthout from time to time and on other sites concerned with sunshine and transparency.

The harm from chemicals is discusssed openly in some other countries, and it is becoming quite difficult to block that information in the states.

This is why there is such a push to get these chemicals back into India (after the memory of Bhopal has faded) and into Africa. South and Central American countries have wised up in some respects, particularly Equador, which has a solid core of dedicated supporters from the U.S.

I am nobody, really. Don't trust me on this stuff. It has become easier to find the research of independent researchers.

I agree with Lovins concerning monopolies. They want out-of-scale stuff that is ironically quite vulnerable to cut or broken lines and things like that.

Micro-grids will happen despite the fierce attempts to stop them. They empower local people, especially kids needing to learn practical stuff in schools, and when people hear how they work, they want this. Concentrated photovoltaics, regular phtovoltaics, and thermal are going to get placed. Even geothermal is going in in some places.

Regular people are doing this at great expense and while getting pretty frustrated with installed monopoly behaviors.

What Kucinich did in Cleveland can happen in other places. It is just going to take time.

Junketing by leaders is soap opera, but it's clotted cream on the surface of a pond teaming with stuff going on under the surface.
