Cool tribute to one of my favorite writers, and happy you included his "Christmas Memory". I'm also particularly fond of "The Grass Harp".

Several years ago I received a copy of his unfinished "Answered Prayers"-- the virtually autobiographical account of NYC's glitterati. After the first few chapters appeared in Esquire, too many from his circle recognized themselves and promptly scratched the writer off their collective calendar. The play "Tru" recreates the lonely Christmas Capote spent just after the magazine's publication. A favorite line from that play occurs as the writer enters with a huge plant almost as potted as he is. He places it center stage, pauses to admire it, and then announces, "Poinsettias. The Bob Goulet of the botany world!"

I think Frost's last stanza sigh might be one of relief. The quiet and solitude one enjoys on a lightly traveled lane allows that person to appreciate the journey. Poets understand about the creative grace found in solitude. Chaos can erupt on congested pathways where some idiot or other is always trying to cut you off, or misinterpretting your signals.

Fifteen years of carrying the mail redefined the holidaze for me. Especially when one of those electronic/musical cards was on the fritz.....almost enough to make a girl go berserk!

Interesting article, Governor. Florida's drop-out rates were released yesterday, and it appears that many of our public highschool students have left themselves behind.

Our pitiful application of the NCLB guidelines have resulted in less learning due to a number of reasons. I know many fine teachers who now teach test taking strategies disguised as critical thinking. Accountability means nothing when standards fail to parlay those number of students who are classified with learning exceptionalities or ESOL.

I support more access to arts education as a reasonable pathway to higher learning and critical thinking.
