What it does for me is to remind me that we, as a species, are moved to seek God. It also helps me make sense of my love for the Christian mythic cycle despite the damage it's done when it's been taken literally.

I'm Canadian, and 37, and I feel the need to expatriate myself. Not because there's anything wrong with living in Canada, but because I feel so white bread, so western culturalized, and I'd like to experience something more than Labatt's Blue and Hockey Night in Canada. Living here doesn't feel challenging enough.

I'm French Canadian by birth but raised with the English Language. I don't think France is for me. I think I'd like to visit, but not live there.

After eight years, you'd think you'd feel more at home in France, eh? I hope you, at the very least, have a group of intimates to call your own.

I noticed the same thing - all this lovely polished writing, but few personal essay type articles. I plan to write all the personal stuff I feel like writing, and perhaps that will encourage others to do the same. I don't feel any kind of pressure to write academically at all, though I might when I'm actually back in school.

I'm feeling ya. The only way for me to stay sane right now is to remember that winter doesn't last forever.

Unlike you, though, I don't like snow. Blech. If it were warm and fluffy, I'd be okay with it, but it isn't so blech.

I loved reading this. It is one of the things you learn quickly after you lose something or other to a rodent in your garden. I love all the earth's creatures - just so long as they stay out of my herbs. If not, all bets are off.
