Where are the philanthropists when we need them? To save one human life in this community would be worth all the money needed to rebuild the stores and the school on the other side.

This is the typical reaction of a "people pleaser."

And how does such a person rise above making other's opinion count while discounting their own? Based on my observation, they take on addictions--like overeating! Or worse, some just become bitter or cruel.

I believe that when we value ourselves, only then can we can rightly value others in a non-people pleasing way.

I think you've just hit the core we all need to find in order to make allowances for ourselves, Sandra.

After my mother's passing long ago, I chose not to take that "last look" again.

Last year, I lost someone close to me and after two decades of exercising this choice, it was easy for me to give this final "respect."

I can give the same respect to celebrities. The JFK photos are hard to view, don't you think? Or, those of James Brown in his opened casket?

All my images of the departed are ones of vibrant living souls. That is kind of a sweet memory. A good thing...
