Do you use an outline when you write? by Ron Hall

You bring up a big argument in the writing community, Ron. I haven't read all of the comments you received, but if you ever intend to write professionally, you do need to learn how to outline if you want to sell on spec. When a preliminary stepsheet isn't done before writing a novel, then the rough draft becomes the outline. Problem is, there are a lot of lazy writers who don't want to go back and rewrite. There are a lot of genre publishing houses who take their sub-standard work without reading it to make up the numbers they want in their category lines.

FWIW, I've done enough workshopping that I can tell when author uses a stepsheet or not.

My main concern is learning that your case is even remotely connected to the Warrens. I've been hearing stories that they give paranormal research a bad name.

I've got a few stories on my Gather group, NorCal Ghost Stories.

Nora Davenport must be talking about www.theshadowlands.net. That one is a good place to start for regional stories, but is neither well edited, comprehensive, nor researched.

Gloria Allred is a woman with an agenda and she's preying on another who obviously has emotional issues.

Have you heard the latest on Suleman? Someone threw a child seat through her car window. As much as I'm annoyed by "Octomom," this has miniscule impact on me. Why are other people getting involved?

The only reason the media is covering this is because the public is fascinated by the situation. If this story stopped driving up ratings and selling newspapers, it wouldn't stay in the news.

Souleman has emotional issues, but she still needs an income. Pity she has to give up her privacy for it. At least I'll give her some space because I doubt I'll ever watch this show.

That Chuck E. Cheeze is still around, although it's actually located on Tully Road, by Senter. I actually had pizza there a few months ago.

According to David Lee, who wrote Haunts of San Jose, the girl died after falling from the third story. Your story might have some validity, though, as I find his research lacking. What did the girl look like?

I haven't bothered to read all of the comments on this posting, but if you are going to post fiction, you're better off going to websites that focus on it, such as You Write On or Authonomy. If you want to work on writing skills, I also find the community at Epinions has a much better eye for good writing than any other I've participated in. They concentrate more on reviews, but there's no BSing in how they rate your work.

However, receiving constructive criticism is no where near as valuable as giving it. The best critiquers are usually the best writers. The people who have a hard time taking or giving it usually don't progress in their work. Gordon Ramsey works in another creative discipline, but he's an example of someone who is excellent at what he does.
