My radio show co-host asked this morning why poor working people would defend Republican ideology that favors the wealthy over them. I told her I believe it's because they recruit people who are ignorant and angry by telling them that their political opponents are to blame for their problems. It's the same method groups like the KKK and the Skinheads use.

I know they're trying to look unbiased, but it really chaps my cookies when the hard news shows ignore these stupendous acts of idiocy leaving only the Left leaning shows to comment. That only serves to prove to the guppies on the Right that criticism about thier stupidity is politically biased. If someone is wrong or incorrect, it should be pointed out... period!

I find it interesting that Obama opponents have been "fed up" with the mythical "massive taxation" and "trillion dollar this and that Obama programs" since before he even took the oath of office. I think it's a little disengenuous to be "fed up" with "massive taxation" when as of this date the only action taken on taxes was to lower them for the middle class as part of the stimulus "program." It's also disengenuous because the guy has barely been in office for 10 lousy months.

And would you please drop the "all Americans are on my side" sillyness. The reality is that most Americans are barely aware of what's truely going on. And few have any serious understanding of the issues. We who live and breathe politics tend to forget the average person on the street couldn't tell you the name of the Vice President of the United States.

I didn't say the poll was wrong. I'm simply pointing out how muddled politics has made the meanings of these terms. And how the politicians spin differs from how people see themselves.

The problem is that the MEANING of these words is constantly being twisted and reshaped to fit the rhetoric. The GOP claims conservatism, yet the years 2001 to 2007 of Republican stewardship was anything BUT conservative. The reason Dems are in power is because they walk their talk. You may not like liberalism, but that's what you get when you elect Democrats.

The problem is that there isn't anything conservative about Republican values. Exploiting our natural resources without regard for the environment and a willingness to engage in obscenely expensive ideological wars is not being conservative.

The Republicans had thier chance and they spent our money like a drunken college student with thier parents credit card. If the Republicans want to regain power they are going to have to prove they can walk the talk.

I understand your disappointment Dave, but I've decided to look at the situation in a positive way. Regardless of how weak the bill will end up being, we WILL get a bill. That in itself is a historic event socialogic for this country. For well over a half century people have been trying and failing.

Look at it like it's the foundation of a house. A foundation by itself isn't something you can live in, but if you try to build a house without one, you won't get very far. So this initial bill is at least something we can build on. What we cannot do is give up. We have to keep on keeping on speaking and writing for what we believe in. Maybe it won't be in my lifetime, but one day this country WILL have a single payer universal health care system!!!

I sympathize with all the disapointment from the Left. I myself am a staunch supporter of a single payer system. But we have to keep or eye on the big picture. Just getting a health care bill passed at all is an event socialogic for this nation. We must not allow ourselves to be too disheartened now. We must march on and continue the fight. What ever we get for a bill is at least a beginning. That's how we should look at this initial bill... a beginning that can be built on and improved.

The absurdity of continuing to insist "most" Americans agree with your position on health care reform and other issues is the reason so many come down on you so hard Marilyn. And that reality is that there ARE 2 sides vying for control of this nations destiny. One side champions the corporate world and the wealthy elite. Barely 20% of the American people are even willing to admit they are Republican. The elections of 2006 and 2008 showed the American people were sick and tired of hearing one thing an getting another from the GOP.

What's troubling is how folks like the author of this article continue to act as if the shift to the Left isn't happening. Hell they seem surprised and shocked that the American people are not still swallowing their lies and bullshit hook, line, and sinker like they did during the Reagan era.

It's over Anthony... The days of unsustainable low taxes for the wealthy and cowboy shoot first and ask questions later foreign policy is over my slow friend. But you should rant away Anthony. I wouldn't want anyone to forget how close to complete ruin the ideology your defend took us.

I get so sick of having to repeat myself, but... Just because I do not agree with your assesment of the effects of a public option does not mean I'm a hypocrit or that I'm ignorant. And as far as the issue of profit, I stand by my statement. Citing rediculous examples like "food should be free" or "illegal band aids" reveals a weak argument Anthony.

You are a very good writer Anthony. Your ability to frame issues in an easily understandable manner is enviable. There's just one problem. You are either gullible as hell or as cold blooded as a Great White shark.

I find your obsession with "costs" to be obscene. And to answer your question... Yes, I do want my taxes to go to a government run public option. Hell I believe a single payer system would be infinitely better than any system that includes the insidious inhuman factor of profit.

You on the Right go on about how this will hurt the insurance industry. I say good riddance for ever. To me the very idea of making profit from the pain and suffering of our fellow human beings is disgusting. And I think anyone defending that industry and they way they’ve been operating needs to be doing some self evaluation.

The health insurance industry like a lot of corporate America do not believe in playing by the rules. They don’t want any competition of any kind. They’ve stacked the deck in their favor and want to keep it that way. Defending any of these criminals makes no sense to me. They have their hand as deeply into your pockets as they do mine. Logic dictates we should be on the same side. Unless of course you are one of them…

It is no surprise the Republicans are so against an organization that advocates for the poor. It's funny too because the Republicans are so insistant about how much better it is for private entities to deal with matters like the poor. Remember Bush 41's thousand points of light. Apparently the GOP would like to extinguish the ACORN point of light.

The reality is the Republicans hate anything that goes againt the lust for power. Poor people voting is bad for the Right so they oppose it and want to end it. Never mind that 90% of ACORN's activities have nothing to do with politics. The Right would gladly do away with all the good works ACORN does simply to stop them from registering people they know are not going to vote for them.
