Well said, George. I have written on Gather my opinion that corporations have no right of free speech as if they are individuals. Each employee and each stockholder has. The corporation most certainly does not.

Oh, yes, one more thing. TV "news" programs and personalities look for controversy, not enlightenment. They would rather have opponents on an issue shouting at each other than quietly explaining their positions.

An excellent post, James. All very true.
However, I do have a disagreement about it not being the media. In an attempt to appear balanced, they fail to distinguish fact from fear mongering. They give a national audience to the most outrageous lies without bothering to fact-check, as any responsible journalist should do. (And, for that matter, any responsible analyst. Yes, there are some.) Just because there are some who rail against non-existant death panels does not mean they should be given equal time in the public forum.

I said that as if such had been tested - it hasn't, but my intuition is that it's a much more benign design.

The new design should be far less lethal because the solid parts are so more dense. The area of air that the 100 foot long standard blades cut through is mostly air and perhaps not as noticeable to flying creatures. Running into the new design is more akin to running into a stationary car - very, very seldom happens.

Hmmm. I haven't seen that. Is it the same Dyson as that goofy guy who enthuses about his cyclone carpet vacuum cleaner? If so, the technology wouldn't be applicable. That cyclone replaces the filter, not the fan.
I've seen TV ads for those air "purifiers" that somehow clean the air without a fan to move air through it.

In the early 1980s, I went to Amarillo on a business trip. At lunch, I ordered a beer, and was told Amarillo is a dry county - alcohol is as forbidden as in Libya. I settled for iced tea. When I paid, I asked the cashier if they accept American Express. She thought for a minute, then asked "Is that a credit card?"
This Sept, my wife and I drove from NY to Arizona and stopped near Amarillo for dinner. The waitress sadly informed me that the county is still dry. Can anybody spell hypocrisy?
Still, Oklahoma isn't any better.

IMO people in the business of providing medical treatments should leave their religious beliefs at the door. If they're not willing to serve those in need, they should find another profession.
