To clarify (in the spirit of more-than-you-wanted-to-know): Here's the reason that ANY window covering can cause the frost/moisture problem. The window coverings are supposed to prevent heat loss. They do this by keeping the warm, indoor air away from the window glass. Because the windows aren't getting much heat from the indoor air, the glass gets very cold. (Of course, the colder the outside air, the colder the glass gets.) The cold glass cools the adjacent air. Because cold air holds less moisture, some of the indoor moisture condenses onto the glass, and perhaps even freezes.

So ANY window covering that prevents heat loss--whether it's cellular shades, blinds, or drapes--will cause condensation and/or ice formation, if the indoor air is moist enough. The window coverings are just doing their job by keeping the warmth away from the window glass! That's why it's important to lower the humidifier setting if the outside air gets very cold.

The solution is to turn down the humidifier on your furnace when the temperature drops. (My humidistat lists recommended humidity levels at various temps.) If the temp is 20 below, the humidity level should be set no higher than 15 percent. It will mean dry skin and static, but it will avoid moisture damage. The same problem can happen with any type of window covering that can significantly reduce heat loss through the windows. We have the same problem with blinds on our windows.

On windows that have screens, it can also be helpful to remove the screens in the winter.

What a stunning quilt! And how much richer it is for having this story to accompany it, so that s/he who views the quilt can know and understand the many stories it tells. The photos are a great visual experience, too.

I never knew there was so much tradition and storytelling in a crazy quilt. Fascinating!

Moving poem. It's not too obscure. I had to read it twice, but only twice, to catch the narrative thread. I think your choice of free verse, and the poem's oblique approach to its subject matter, work really well. The last stanza is interesting, but I think the original poem is stronger without it. It feels complete and organic.
