It remains to be seen whether this is a victory or not. I have been posting this comment on various blogs for the last threee days:

Prediction: They have finally engaged the wedge that will split the progressive wing of the party. They are going to trade away the public option in exchange for dropping the Stupak Amendment. They are going to trade away the promise of real HC reform for the status quo on abortion under Hyde with the expectation that they can get back the women’s rights true believers.

I hope the woman’s rights coalition is smart enough to recognize that if they go for this trade, they will become the pariahs responsible for killing the public option and it may be the last legislative victory they ever achieve.

Let’s see if the progressives can stick together and let this turkey of a bill become the roadkill it deserves to be. I’m not holding my breath.

Tonight, the Senate killed the public option.

Exactly.

If it is a public group, your friends would still be able to see and read your post but they would have to be a member of the group to comment. Obviously, if it is your post, you could choose no restrictions, friends only or group members only.

I made a hanger like that for my Washburn but my Martin lives in its case. I once played a Hummingbird that resided in a recording studio. It had the sweetest action of any acoustic I've ever played.

Obama is smart enough to realize he can't fight a two front war: one being that he is a socialist and the other that he is weak on national security.

This will be revisited just before or just after the election in 2012.

A random spark of inspiration suggested that I take a look back at some old threads. I was particularly interested in this time frame, give or take a month or two because we were putting out enough interesting stuff to keep the conversation going but neither Ann nor I had begun to introduce a new theme with each new episode.

As I read through the old threads it struck me that there are recurring themes that we continually revisit (Carl Jung for instance) without excessively repeating ourselves. I also was intrigued by the variety of topics that crop up, much in the way a conversation around the dinner table might wander. Some topics get examined in depth and some are passed over and some are deserving of a revisit.

Ann and I are always looking for ways to keep the conversation moving and to offer provocative subject matter for discussion. The revisit seemed like a good way to refresh the thread without too much additional research (read work).

Youth seems to carry a remarkable tendency to push back against authority. That "equal aned opposite reaction" thing seems to work in the realm of behavior as well as physics.

This comment sort of slipped through the cracks when it was originally posted. There was no follow on commentary.

I just read an article suggesting that some of the stimulus money should be directed toward the arts. It made a great case for the role that beauty plays, particularly in public places on the general sense of well being present in a population.

I have not seen much in print about the effect of step families. My kids have lots of friends whose parents are divorced and of course many have remarried either one or both. I am stunned by comments I hear about the step parents. It seems a lot of parents get remarried to satisfy their own needs with little regard for the effect it has on their children.
