Well, yesterday, I did it. I finished my first write through. 50,544 words. I'm done. I've taken today off. Maybe I'll take tomorrow off as well. I've got a lot of other things to catch up on. Then, I'll start editing.

I don't see any scenes I want to cut out yet. If anything, I'll mostly be expanding areas where my descriptions are sufficient enough yet.

I haven't posted any parts of it, in part because 'first publication' issues, but I have shared it with some friends, and always appreciate feedback.

I had a great night writing last night and I'm at 9,850! I went to a write-in on the first. It wasn't the most productive use of my time, I only wrote about 800 words there, but I had a great time, and got a lot of encouragement.

Beyond that, I'm just writing. Pouring my heart and soul into it. I worry about running out of storyline before I reach 50,000. I'm so excited with the story, I want to get to the key parts, but I have to pace myself.

Anyway, I'm having a blast. I hope others are too. I'll check back soon.

This is my first year. However, my daughter did NaNoWriMo last year, and published her novel on Lulu. I don't know how many copies she's sold, but she's climbed up to a Lulu Sales Rank of 16,654, which I assume is pretty good, because last time I checked, her sales rank was over 50,000 You can check out her book, maybe even buy a copy, at

Like others have mentioned, I too, am in several different groups, and I find the social networks surrounding NaNoWriMo fascinating. Maybe that will provide a topic for next year.

I'm currently booking along quite nicely. I'm at 9,850 words. However, I do worry about running out of storyline before I hit 50,000 words. But, I keep plugging away.

Katrina, the problems is, how do we get people to step out of their doors, see the poverty-stricken in their towns and cities and take some sort of action?

Sen. Edwards tour is a good start. Getting more people to write about poverty issues is a good start. What other ways can we get more people to be aware of issues of poverty in their own backyards?

If any of you are anywhere near the Road to One America Tour, I sure hope you write about it here, and even more importantly, take a little extra time and help people in the towns along the tour get online and share their experiences.

We need to hear the voices of those struggling with poverty so that we can all understand a little better how important an issue this is.

That's one of the things that I like about Sen. Edwards. He encourages all of us to take simple actions now, and not simply wait for some big governmental change in the future. We can all do our part to use less electricity at home by turning off unnecessary lights, changing to compact fluorescent lights, running our washing machines at colder temperatures (clothes still come out clean in cold water.

We can also change our energy consumption by changing the way we drive. When we get a new car, we can get hybrids. I bought a used Prius a couple years ago and it has been great. If we keep the speed down we get better mileage. If we don't gun it when we accelerate, we get better mileage.

As to Mr. Bill's concern about carbon credit trading, while I recognize that it is a system that can be misused, every system can be misused, I do believe there is considerable value to it. One thing I found interesting is that the UN Development Program is entering the carbon financing markets as a way to not only fight greenhouse gases, but also to promote the millennium development goals. Ann, thank you for your kind words. This is something I am passionate about. I hope everyone that reads my resolution will stop and think about how they can help other people find their voices, whether it be helping them start blogging, get more involved in our civic life, or simply inviting them here.

I did just get an email that Gather will be highlighting my post on Monday. Needless to day, I am ecstatic about this. I hope a lot of people will read the post and stop and reflect.

Do any of you have good stories, about helping people find their voices? I would love to hear them.
