Have you read the Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, where her dad would take each child out to lie on their backs in the night and would tell them to choose a star, which he then gave them for Christmas? Your Sears experiences reminded me of this. Touching and tremulous.

I love those purple colors, the climbing vines of trembling flowers, but that final photo could not be of that charming little cottage could it. It looks much too grand.

Now that I'm back online after a gale that required a new roof and satellite system, I shall pop over here to get the lowdown on the latest movies. My hubby and I live 84 miles from the closest theater, usually have no idea what is playing yet because we love movies we stand like dolts on line waiting to buy tickets based on the title of the movie.

This is such a great idea Priscilla. This reminds me of a personalized Book Crossing, where you leave a book for someone to pick up, only with your contest they get to choose and you get to select. Right now I am around 30 books behind in my reading, currently totally caught up in Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann, which just won the National Book Award for fiction (announced today). I started yesterday and kept thinking, Pulitzer Prize.

Good Lord Marianna. My heart stopped for a second when you saw that face in the window! When we first moved up here, a friend suggested I read the police reports which were "hilarious." I did and the story of the two tourists who called the police because of someone prowling around the house and banging on their windows caught my attention. The police arrived and determined that the prowler was a black bear.

What an extraordinary childhood Arduinna. I laughed about the canned spinach remembering the time my little boy, while playing monopoly suddenly declared "Look, Ihave biceps." He'd insisted I buy him several cans of spinach like Popeye eats. Though I'm into fresh he wanted and insisted on the canned.

Ron. You've got to be the "collectingest" friend I've got on Gather. I'm contemplating a garage sale and the thought staggers me because of the sheer quantity of things we've collected without hitting garage sales. By the way, are you still freezing your "peels" and using them in soup. I tried, but I think I overdid the peppers.

what fun to check in to Gather after rather lengthy absences to find you are writing here again! Now, without a telly, I have no idea what NCIS is all about, but I certainly think that the "lie to me," show should be watched by every parents who's ever wondered if their kid is on the level.
