Ah, but the good senator has made the sexual desires of others a very public business. Think of his pronouncements on Bill Clinton's pedadillo's, just as one example, and his very strident opinions and his voting record on 'family values.' Apparently, sexual desires matter greatly to his constituency. Hypocricy matters.

Excellent sum up, Sam, as to why permanent occupation is the end goal. It was always about the oil [and stragetic position and other resources]; and more importantly, making sure that we get the lion's share of everything. "The stakes [and probable world wide recession] are high" indeed. There will be much ado about 'bringing the troops home' -- all of which will come to nothing except as external events change the congress's would-be course, as well as the constituencies of Merkel, Sarkozy, Gordon, et al. [I believe Bush may well see his own reflection in Putin's eyes, but I'll bet the latter doesn't particularly like the cut of GWB's jib.] Change won't come cheaply. The Iraqis, Iranians and others aren't going to roll over like the incompetent [and evil] stooges the spin machine is making them out to be.

Bush and other myopic global elites may not think they have much to lose or to fear; the rest of the world may have other ideas. War crimes are war crimes -- and all the world has seen.

[When the Senate was doing it's perfunctory discussion of the new embassy--and it's cost-- I wrote to Senator DiFi saying it sounded more like a permanent fortress than an embassy; she assured me she was keeping an eye on things, uh huh. . .]

After Bush said "go shopping" and then when he said a surge was necessary because "the stakes are high", he meant the stakes for 'our' [and I use the term loosely] economy are high -- [stupid people]. Those MRAPs to replace all 19,000 HumVees can't come off the line any too soon -- wonder who will get the 'fast track' contract?

A 10+ and a big hug for Buddy. I always check websites before leaving an email, but I agree that mass email is effective. My reps [think DI-FI] have all received my very angry two cents, many times over. I get nice 'canned' responses; but that's ok, there's another election coming. DOWNSIZING? How about kicking their mangy, mediocre, money and power-mad, war mongering a**'s OUT.

Terrorism? There's nothing scarier or disgusting than a corrupt politician. How COULD they all [well, most of those abject senators on both sides] give Bush carte blanche in the surveillance department, yet again. REMIND your reps, everybody, that the Patriot Act was 'supposed' to sunset too. It's not nice to fool with the electorate.

How to deal with terrorism? STAY IN FULL CAMPAIGN MODE -- EACH AND EVERY DAY!

Lyndon, James C., Bill, Evie, et al. Thanks for the google clues. 'Some' of us may have inadvertantly strayed to the Cato Institute and gotten stuck there. Oh, the noble stench of truth, or truthiness. Or, as the Cons are apt to mouth breath Bushie's own words: "when the president speaks, it's really important for those words to mean something. . ." Damned right and what a crime that NCLB is such a shabby sham.

Oh, forgot her very best comment re "not running to fight democrats." Smart woman. It remains to be seen, however, how hard she will fight for 'we the people." Same is true for the rest of them.

The recent senate vote to give Bush yet more surveillance power did no happen in a vacuum and is not a good sign -- they had all better pay attention and start talking about the things the voters said they care about last November -- unless they think we're all just babbling and they get to babble back.

I liked the comment, "I'm your girl." Methinks she's laughing all the way to the bank and the polls -- but she'll have to come with better answers on Pakistan [as do ALL of them] than to say that Pakistan is reeking with radicals just waiting to get in bed with Al Q and he better listen up. . .or else.

Same ol, same ol. Too many people know that we've been playing -- and paying for -- that tune with Musharef forever and a day: how he's been keeping those radicals under control--whilst looking the other way--when the population is actually moderate and would like him and the military to get the hell out of their everyday lives. Musharef is going to go down, no matter who is in office. I'm particularly disappointed that O'Bama is playing that tune and, in that sense, Hillary definitely won. O'Bama's rejoinder about the wrong war in the wrong place was merely a rehash of Kerry's old line -- but right on target for good propaganda -- and amusing.

All the candidates should be looking over their shoulder at public opinion 'over here' and 'over there' and all around the world.

Number one reason the Bushies won -- they had a better propaganda machine and a greater tendency to do "push polls," etc.

Speaking of Nader, I know a whole lot of 'folks' who voted "green" [in the local elections] and deliberately voted for Nader -- to send a message. We see how that worked but, if you stop to think about it, how many people these days believe [especially in light of the most recent election] that there really is a bipartisan fairy who has our best interests at heart?

Electoral votes can be bought too. Dick Cheney paid some visits to the northwest -- and lo -- farmers got water and fish [and the fishermen] got screwed. Time to scrap the electoral college. Nothing collegial about it.

Maybe the evil "ex" engineered it and then, again, maybe the daughter has experience of her own regarding the kind of policies her daddy would pursue. In and of itself, the daughter's opinion probably wouldn't matter [think of the book Reagan's daughter wrote, though that was 'after' he became president]. Considering though all the other family baggage to go with, it may matter. [It's not like he only has one -- "ex"]. Perhaps he would 'get the hang' of running the country more quickly than he can figure out how to keep a relationship going and engender the respect of his children.

Colin Powell was DUPED? Let's not be stupid, or coy! No, he wasn't duped; neither was Hillary nor John Edwards nor any of congress, nor most of the voting electorate duped; and, O'Bama didn't didn't vote AGAINST the war in a fit of naivete'. [Read up folks -- it's out there -- and not just on the internet but in real books written by real experts, scholars and journalists; even small town newspapers.]

Dark Dick recently told Larry King that "we don't do torture." GWB just said that we have on the other hand used "alternative procedures which were designed to be safe. . ."

Since we're talking about Hillary vs other candidates: What would Hillary do?

I've been very hard on the Billaries of late. I believe that Hillary is her own person and ferverently believe that she is tougher AND stronger and more seasoned as a politician than Bill and is as intelligent as he. By those criteria and considering what we've come to expect in the way of leadership, she would make a fine president. Whether she has a conscience is another matter and, if she does, whether that will lead her away from war mongering for special global elite interests and toward ordinary garden variety American citizens is another story.

Sam C. and Wayne make a good case for making me think we won't know until it is perhaps too late. Perhaps [if she doesn't 'turn' in favor of "we the people"] she will "render" unto another country those who like it to make it up as they go along -- though I don't think Canada will want them. [Poland, amongst other of our so-called allies, does do high tech water boarding for us.]

Mickey d. probably flunked everything -- except how to promote privatization for his pals. Thanks to the systematic efforts of the neoCONS [on both sides of the aisle], our public schools have been starved to death and the teachers [and dumb kids] get the blame. Just like those damned greedy workers and unions got the blame for our 'thriving' free market system for building a better auto. Ha ha ha.

"Conservatives without Conscience" is excellent overall and gives insight into "why" which makes all the craziness more understandable. Much as it hurts, I've always felt that "it's better to know." Ignorance may be bliss for the short term, but it's killing us for the longer haul. My state is considered the laid back land of sunshine [and fruits and nuts]; whereas it's really big blotches of blue and red.

Don't forget all those slippery little [well, big] supplementals that 'sort of' get factored in, eventually. They already have to add a 'new' supplemental to the new supplemental for Cal yr 07 to fund all those MRAPs coming off the lines to replace 19,000 HumVees.

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Shut up and keep paying, suckers. Who needs to fix the infrastructure "over here" when we can knock it down "over there" and someone actually gets paid for it.
