You are absolutely right that all incoming tax money is spent... and then some... the problem is that a large % is spent on servicing the debt we already have - so we get NOTHING for that money. Then money is spent on a bureaucratic infrastructure that in the case of health care "overhaul" takes 2000+ pages to describe. That’s the underlying problem though… you think that 100 senators and 435 congressmen are better equipped at handling YOUR money.

So may be a bit slow... but is article saying that privatized health care system is actually better? It would support what I saw in China and India recently as there are two classes of doctors and hospitals. The public ones that only the poorest of the poor go to or the privately run hospitals with US and European trained doctors. Private hospitals and doctors are new developments especially in China and seen as catalist for improved health care.

While I agree with what you say I think the premise is not quite correct. Republicans lost power because of the big tent mentality. People didn’t know what they stood for anymore. We had "conservatives" spend like crazy and a president that couldn’t articulate effectively what his vision was or explain why he did what he was doing. Enter Sen. Obama... People want to believe in change...in the good but what is killing the Democratic Party is overpromising and under delivering. The senate now is more divided than ever. Obama promised an open debate on health care on C-Span then we have voting at 1am in the morning. I think it was good to have the bills read because even just listening for a few minutes you saw how bureaucratic and complex this process is when government gets involved. Yet on the news 2000 page legislation is summed up by two main points. Everyone HAS to have insurance and preexisting conditions are scrapped. So now people are wondering hell why does it take 2000 pages… what else is in there? As more and more trickles out and people understand what democrats have done for themselves just to get their own votes there will be a massive backlash against democrats.

Nice lipstick. I know this may come as a surprise but not everyone is perfect. My point is that if you believe government will solve your problems then you will always be disapointed and bitter. Has nothing to do with smugness I just CHOOSE to take responsibility for my actions and life choices and not blame others.

The problem is that the math doesnt work out. Every dollar the governement takes goes through a bureaucracy which costs money. You wonder why tax credits like cash or clunkers and home buyer credit are so successful? It doesn't take a huge bureaucracy to give you your money back.

Now I fully admit that every dollar given in food stamps has a higher economic impact but two things I want you to consider. How much did that one dollar actually cost? How much better would it be if that person had a job?

You will see that under Bush there were largest increases for Medicare and other social services.

"Governments increase employment by increasing the money in the hands of the poor. " REALLY??? wow where does this economic fact come from? Small businesses are by far the largest employers and engine for economic stability...NOT government. The only thing the government has ever created is the atomic bomb...

Unlike Pres. Obama, republcans never said they coud change everything. They foolishly worked on things like lowest unemployment, highest GDP. Not to mention when it came time to anounce revisions to government projections it was always... ummm government took in more then projected... not the other way around.

Would you invest in a company if they presented you a business plan that has less then 5% profit margin??? Hell no... Insurance companies pending on who you ask have a profit margin between 2-6%. You really need to find a better demon to go after...

I do have to wonder though if this is such a good idea why senators have to be "bribed" just to get something passed. And now seems timeline is going to be pressured by POTUS Christmas trip. Yea lets speed things up even more so he can go to Hawaii... screw openness and debate.

The issue is difference between words and action. UN has talked for years about Darfur while women and children were butchered. Speaches are nice but the UN uneffectively enforcing resolution is frustrating. But he does have a lot in common with UN lots of talk not much action.

It's not that we shouldn't talk to enemies but talking is cheap when they keep doing things they not supposed to. Talk didn't end WWII it was actions...

no you said republicans snubbed hispanics by not voting for her. I am hispanic and don't feel snubbed. Look congratulations to you... you won, she will be nominated - lets hope it was a good decission. My point was just that you and many on your side of isle focus on her race rather then on how she would vote on crucial items that could have major implications to your and my life. You don't discuss her stance on issues... you focus on republicans hypersensitivities. How would you feel if you busted your butt studying for an exam for a promotion and then someone says sorry not enough minorities passed so therefore you won't get your promotion either... All because city was afraid of a potential law suit...talk about hypersensitivity...

Devin, your article HEADLINE talks about race. You are the one saying she should get a pass because she is Hispanic - it would have been politically smart... No one said anything negative about the fact that she worked hard and can be proud of her achievements. We are though talking about a lifetime appointment which has significant implications on the future of our country. So pardon me while I focus on what she sais, what she believes and how she rules instead of her skin color.

Usually in reference to totalitarian regimes who want to keep everyone the same - except the few anointed leaders who are better… Kind of like Congress who says we all should accept their health plan but when Republicans tried to get an amendment that these same rules should apply to members of congress it was voted down. Guess they are too good for the plan they are trying to sell us on…

I find it an interesting dichotomy that the party that so despises the ueberwealthy Wall Street traders and Enron trading schemes is so on board with Carbon Trading schemes. How is that different then electricity trading etc? Someone will become very wealthy by creating this commodity market at the expense of everyone...
