Exactly my point. They need to be more clear on what would or would not constitute a disability or a perceived disability.

Thanks Rose. I try not to worry about what the world says. It's a constant struggle but most days I do well. Thanks for the verses. I have never thought about what the Bible says about fatness.

This is not a stupid discussion. I think that before you can "know" something you simply have to "believe" it. In most instances we come to knowing by believing. For instance, a child doesn't know that gravity keeps them anchored to the ground. But that child simply believes that they aren't going to just all of a sudden float away. The child believes that she will stay rooted to the ground, later learns about gravity, and then knows that it is true.

At some point we begin to believe that God exists. Then we experience our faith which helps us to "know" that it is real. God can indeed reveal Himself to everyone, but some people are so hard hearted and refuse to accept what is as plain as the nose on their face. So, even if God did reveal Himself in a plain and simple way, there would be some people who would still claim that He did not exist.

You must remember though, that these teenagers you are speaking of in the documentary The Devil's Playground, are not baptized members of the Amish church. They have been raised Amish but are going through their rumschpinga or running around years. During that time they can pretty much do anything they want to.

Most Amish who have telephones do not have them inside their homes. The phone would be located in the barn or inside their place of business. It would be used only when necessary- not like we use it.

I'm glad I read this article. Way to many people lump the Mennonites right in with the Amish. That is, if they have even heard of the Mennonites. They are two distinct groups with differing beliefs. One of the major differences in belief is that the Mennonites are more open to the use of technology than are the Old Order Amish.

Good for you, Danielle. That is great to hear. And that is exactly what the HAES movement is about. Our health is not about our weight- and science is proving that. Our health is based on how much we move. The number on the scales is irrelevant.

That's right, Renee. However, the text of this bill allows for crimes committed based on a perceived disability. It is quite possible that some people would consider obesity a disability. My point was that crimes committed against someone who was overweight or obese would probably not be counted as meeting the criteria for cases to be federally funded according to this bill. However, the very words in the bill itself would lend one to think it would since it can be perceived as a disability. I was just poining out the flawed logic in our society.
